The ability to put the world back into simulation.
« on: April 30, 2011, 07:28:33 pm »

Simulation, or at least what I think simulation is, is the years that roll by when generating the world.

Angel, do me a favor?

Look up the development goals Toady has for the Caravan Arc and look at "Release 5"

We're currently on Release 1.

The OP means continue world generation, which isn't what release 5 is adding.

AoD: You mean like a 'continue world generation/simulation until year blah' type of feature right?

No, but if I don't miss my guess, it would solve the reason for Angel suggesting this in the first place.

Forgive me if I'm overstepping my bounds in reading your mind, tho, AoD.

Either way, both these features have been talked to death on this forum.  A couple of them were written by me, too ;)

This could be quite cool. Build your fortress, piss off the elves until you're at war with them, abandon the fortress (or try to fight them) and see how your civilisation fights the war.

This would enhance the influence your fortress/adventurer has on the world very much and would make Legends mode more attractive.

I'd like to make a hero, and see if decades later I have statues, or centuries later i'm in tales, or in thousands of years, i'm a myth, and nobody but a child would beleive in me.

This is, presumable, one of the things Release 5 will take care of... presuming that you can run centuries worth of fortresses and adventures.

But you know... when the game becomes as deep as the Caravan Arc seems to want to make it... I don't think that'll be too much of a challenge.  I can see becomming VERY attached to a specific world if it becomes more dynamic over time.

Maybe i'd become a holiday, and every 12th of Granite i'd fly around protecting every good soul from night monsters for a single night, so long as they prove they remember me.

There'd be something like the "Moon Festival" or something, where people dance around at night with figurines of me because my spirit protects them from the bogeymen and night monsters.

"Happy dead monster day!"

"Happy dead monster day!"

A wonderful idea, albeit couched as a joke.  I hope that this form of ancestor worship is incorporated into DF at some point.
