Unless the dragons of DF don't fight eachother, it's probably safe to assume they're at least resistant to dragon firebreath.

My stray dogs often chase fire imps back into the magma pipe and then continue fighting while burning and drowning in the lava. Truly their loyalty knows no bounds, but perhaps it should.

Did you perhaps mean cryptozoologists (studiers of mythological or rumored but undiscovered animals) rather than of cryptologists (studiers of cryptology, that is, cipers and encryption and so forth)?

I would be inclined to think that dragons are not, in fact, reptiles, but are instead related to or descended from dinosaurs, like (really big fire-breathing armored) chickens.

aka. someone's opinion and of no consequence to Toady. I like when fantasy goes off the beaten path of the regular accepted doctrine. If dragon's breathe fire because they swallowed alcohol barrels and dwarves with torches, I would just find it imaginative and interesting.

Yes, Firefox insisted that I was wrong about cryptozoologists being a word.

Maybe a fire resistance tag? Not immunity, but enough to let it... resist some, I don't know how to implement it... but it's a good idea. I mean, the dragon thought it had this, why not let them?

My experiments with custom fire-proof race shows that fire damage and heat damage are two separate things.
[FIREIMMUNE] is enough for them to *believe* that they are immune to magma (and therefore try to pass thru it), but to actually survive it when they jump in it and keep be there, they need

Can we confirm that the dragon actually jumped in, as opposed to simply spawning in the lava in the first place?

He spawned at the side of the map, not in the magma/lava.

I'm tired of the science vs. realism thing. I think dragons should be at least partly fireproof. And there is no evidence that dragonfire is chemical in nature. We're going to get at least a moderately magical world (unicorns, dragons, wizards, etc.) I don't see any reason why dragons shouldn't be semi-magical at least.</STRONG>

Fair enough, re: science vs. Toady.

In any case, the dragon walked from the edge of the map to the lava, fell or jumped in, then died.

Who're you going to believe, an automated spellchecker with a limited dictionary or your own brain?

I know alot of people who should trust the spellchecker when speaking in a foreign language.

@ the person looking over my shoulder: Yes i mean you with that.

Unicorns are horses with a horn. What's so magic about that? Toady has stated magic isn't in so therefor dragonfire is chemical by nature.
