Adventures in the Jungles of Silk
« on: April 29, 2011, 04:42:33 pm »

I've been lurking these forums for ages now, and loved every minute of it, but never got around to joining until now.  :P
I love this game, but I've run into a bit of a problem. But first, a little background to the problem:

So I treck half the world with my 12 merry companions, off to slay a giant snail with a taste for sentient cats. After a grueling battle that resulted in the loss of my good friend, the one legged wrestler, we drag ourselves home. On our way back through the jungles, we find ourselves surrounded, by the same cats that would no doubt been eaten if it hadn't been for our acts of heroism. Greetings were cut short however, when a crossbow bolt met my pal the spearman in the neck. As he fell to the ground, we scrambled. And scramble is the right word, for by the journey to the snail-god killed most of my real soldiers, forcing me to recruit any villager I could get ahold of instead. As they took care of the grunts, I headed straight for the archers, knowing what trouble they would cause if left alone. Quickly removing their arms and legs, I turned to join the main fray. To my surprise, it was already over, with only a few injuries as well. 12 cats for 1 soldier and a few bruises seemed worth it, and now I had more adventures to brag about once we reached the fort.

Without moving two steps, we were accosted by some elves, apparently ignorant of our habitual massacring of 'people who look at us funny'. They fell quickly, but again, before we even picked up a decent pace, more cats leapt out of the trees. The lesson had been learned from last time, and we quickly got to work with the dismemberment. The local wildlife decided to join in as well, much to our amusement, and after watching the cats explode against the trees for a while, we left quickly. Night was falling, and not wanting to risk a night-time ambush, we camped until dawn. The jungle, perhaps bitter over the murder, butchering and subsequent wearing of it's guardian, attacked again. No cats this time, just those annoying armoured bulls. Not normally a problem, if your prepared and awake. I awoke to the sound of my men being trampled, and rushed over to help. No luck. The bones were like steel, and each attack was wasted in the desperation. Those of us who were awake enough and alive enough to run, ran. I thought I'd lost them as I desperately ran to get out of this snail-forsaken forest and into familiar lands. I was ready to give in when yet another bandit attack jumped out of the hedges like a collection of nervous paedophiles caught outside a primary school, but some of my companions had followed, and we quickly ran off with their legs.

The sea of trees was thinning now. Another attack left just three of us by the time we got out, but that was all we needed to stay safe for the night, as we took a well deserved rest. Some clothiers were recruited to fill the ranks as we made our merry way back to the man who gave us the original quest. As the castle appeared on the horizon, yet another bandit attacked. I had had enough by now, and made a great effort to remove each of their limbs before letting them bleed to death. Somehow, despite only being a small band, I had been left with just a peasant and a clothier tailing behind. Too tired to care, and with a broken toenail bothering me, we arrived at the fort.

Well, he was pleased, but not pleased enough, because apparently there was another super-evil-nasty titan waiting to be killed, so we were shuffled on our way, without any chance to resupply myself with more cannon fodder, after all the real soldiers in the region just got killed on my last outing. I had plans first though, I wanted to see the capital, sell off some of this forest titan meat that was weighing me down, and find some real soldiers to join me. The were other towns on the way to the capital I could have gone to, but I decided I would visit my hometown, and dump my meat there. I was in no hurry to meet what no doubt would have been a giant fire-breathing carp with wings, so to market!

Whereupon the game crashed, because apparently it doesn't like shops anymore.

So there we go. For some reason, everytime I get near a shop, the game just stops. I've tried making new worlds, but I've had the same problem. I'm using the Monster Hunter mod, but I haven't had a problem before. Any help would be nice, but if not, then I just hope you've enjoyed this little tale of a flying snail god :)

Well, I can't help you with your bug problem, but that was an interesting story, what with the cat swarming and all. Are cats a regular enemy in that mod?

Live long if you can, and prosper by any means necessary.  Any means, Urist.  So pull that lever, or by Armok, I'll lock you outside come next siege.
