Don't forget about the clay! :) Otherwise, cool beans.

Ok then... You had fire proof building material, and used it to build furnaces to burn wood, and thus make building materials even more scarce. XD I suppose fertilizer is important, kinda? But I thought buildings and such might be more so.

Yeah, it's a little confusing for myself too. I thought I had enough stone that I wouldn't be building with brass, for one thing, but I guess I also just couldn't figure out how to use ceramic from the wiki.
Do I just create bricks and build with those? Well, whatever. Next caravan!

Nah, you have to gather clay, from a clay source zone. The resulting glob of clay, is then used as a building material, stored in the stone stockpile. Bricks or anything else made at a kiln needs to be fired. And thus needs fuel.

Ooooh...
So I don't even need a kiln at all? Sweet!

You do need a kiln. XD Without one you can't do the 'gather clay' action. As that's given through the kiln, like gather sand is for the glass workshop.

I love my Militia Commander Dwarf. Do you mind if I switch to full-time soldiers as soon as practical?

I'd like to be dwarfed as a crossbowdwarf. (As crossbows and bolts can be made from wood and bone)

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Sure...I guess. I've never actually had "full time" soldiers, they're usually my menial laborers when they're not training, and in this fort, "menial labor" means carpentry and wood cutting.
But yeah, if I ever start running out of work for my carpenters, you'll be a full-time soldier.

uhhh, isn't the ash that's made from the wood burners a fireproof material that can be used for furnaces/forges?

Yeah.  Thus why I didn't make a trap.  In it's current state the fortress didn't need a trap, the whole damn fortress is a trap.

SRSLY? CANHAZ FIRE-PROOF BUILDING MATERIAL!!!
Lol that is so ironic though. Burning stuff...makes them fireproof. Actually, that's true IRL, the only difference is, well you can't build stuff out of ash IRL.
