Adeventure mode question: HOW DO I SHOOT!

I'm playing a mod, corrosion, and I looted a pistol and some bullets of this guy. I equipped myself with the quiver, with the bullets. Then I tried to "f"ire the bullets and nothing happened. It says I have nothing to fire. I took out the bullets, and now I can't put them back in my quiver, and I STILL can't fire the bullets. Help?

There is a whole section of the forums specifically devoted to adventure mode, I would suggest asking over there, as the majority of people who post in this section play DF mode almost exclusively (I know I do  8) ).
