Warm Stone, No Magma??

I'm digging some exploratory tunnels so I find the magma sea to create my magma piston, I got a confusing situation I hope you can help me make head and tail of it:

UUMMR        M=Semi-molten Rock

in z-2 I have rock, if I dig down I find either warm stone or more diggable rock, if I keep digging down I find more rock or semi molten rock, if I dig down I get to a point where I only find SMR (z-5)... how can i have so many warm stone  in z-3? is the SMR below in z-4 warming that stone? or there's magma in z-4 surrounded by SMR walls??

Nevermind there was magma heating the stones from below.... it was warm but safe to dig....  :P

Happened to me too. I dug around in the cotton candy happily, until I realised there was actually magma outside the walls as well as under them. Cue magma flooding the workshops and sadface :P

But it was fun ;)
