Training animals- does skill affect outcome/attributes?
« on: April 27, 2011, 03:51:25 pm »

As I watch my war grizzly get his butt kicked by a crundle, I'm curious- does the skill of the trainer affect the war animal's attributes? Does a low-skill trainer result in a low-skill war animal?

Also- how much does chaining a war animal affect his ability to fight? Of course it leaves him open to being hit first by whatever comes after him and he can't chase after something that gets knocked back, but once the target is in range does the chain affect mobility otherwise?

Maybe I'm over-thinking this and crundles are just way better at beating up bears than I want to believe, but I'm a little disappointed that one-on-one the crundle is (slowly) dominating the bear.

The only thing I can see that gives crundles an advantage is graspers for wrestling, but weighing ten kilos should negate that. They have horns, but no attack that uses them. Especially for small creatures, dodging is a big part of combat, so it might be that the crundle is continually getting first-strikes, then dodging away. I suppose the lesson is, use pastures rather than chains if want it to actually kill something.

Yeah, the crundle is dodging everything the bear throws at it.

Right after I posted I turned the area into a pasture and assigned a bunch of bears and dogs to it. Unfortunately they all just sit in the corner instead of going after the crundles occupying the same pasture. Ah well, they're still guarding the stairway I want them protecting.
