Looking for a specific start point
« on: April 27, 2011, 01:56:43 pm »

I'm looking for a very specific start point. I'd like to find a flat (that is, at most a difference of 1 in height) glacier with a volcano in the corner, such that the volcano is above the surface, and the mountain formed by the volcano is confined to the corner (that is, it doesn't go all the way to halfway across the map in either direction). I had it before, but I lost that save, so it's gone now.

If the volcano is higher than, say, 5 z-levels, all the better.

All help is appreciated. Thanks!

Keep in mind that that will give you a world with just 2 caverns you might want to change Cavern Layer Count to three if you want a 'normal' world

Thank you very much; working on finding such places. Should be fun. Next up: mixing lava and ice for fun.

Hrm. Does anyone know of a way to make sure that the volcano is already above ground? I'm finding a lot of places where there's a mountain around the volcano, but the lava is still below the layer of the flat glacier.

Thanks, guys: I now have started a new fort on a glacier. They have barely enough resources to make it to first planting, but it is enough. Time to have some fun...

Increase embark points, and then buy more booze/plants.

Heh. But going with just the usual embark points is one of the challenges. They already are surviving, that's more than enough.

Spilling open the mouth of a volcano onto a glacier is a lagpocalypse. I don't recommend it.

Oh, I only plan to do that as a last resort.

Actually, I plan on building a ring of magma 2 z-levels above the flat glacier, and slightly outwards of my great wall. Then when invaders come, well...
I fell into a burning ring of fire
I went down down down, and the flames went higher
and it burned burned burned, the ring of fire, the ring of fire, the ring of fire
