Heh, successions are far from perfect. And tend to be messy. But Yep, your up next Garret.

Did you want to be added back into the rotation at the end Shade?

i thought it was implicit. yup, add me back again.
if everything goes as planned it might in my turn that the magma moat becomes the magmatic death of doom...and all because we forgot the floodgate.

So, got the save, and spend some time on raws backup and replacement - since without tileset it looks like an explosion at ancient historical library, glyphs everywhere. Next one can restore them back, it shouldn't affect any gameplay features, only appearance.

Yeah, Lazy newb pack is HIGHLY suggested. Because it makes things so easy. I'd also suggest turning the exotic tag off when you get it. So you can tame animals you catch without a beast master. That's how I got all those animals on embark to start.

now concerning that. i did turn off the exotic animal (from YES to NO) but still i couldn't tame the leopard and the rhinos in the cages...so, how did you manage to do that? do i need to also update the saves in some ways or what?
little regards: the important thing with the volcano is that it doesn't "spill" on us, or on our grass (if a fire breaks, it's hell since i couldn't move all the stockpiles down but only just a few.) at max, one can alway build a bridge on the other side, and create a 1 tile channel to *decongest* the excessive magma right out of the map...for the joy of...dunno, wimpy elves?

Mcurist terminate digging channel.
*"ehi wimpy elf n°1 did you hear anything from our fellow dwarves?"
*"no wimpy elf n°2, but they send us some rendered fat, to oil ourselves"
*"then let's make an elven oily orgy!"
*"it's getting hotter in here orgy oily elf n° 67"
*"it's...i'm on fireeeeeee"

*thousands ofyear laters...
dwarf excavating site X reports foundings of  ancient and perfectevely conserved charred obsidianised elves. they were in so horrible positions that many dwarf shrieked away in terror. the remains were obviously magmaed before they could do harm.

I wasn't sure is there any other changes, so I just ran mass-compare utility and backed up all differences before overwriting with my default raws. As for PET_EXOTIC - does it work fine when modified 'on-the-fly'? I mean, save, modify raws and reload.

So, First entry:

This is my first day as a ruler of BeastGift. An enormous number of animals and just 83 dwarfs to take care of them.
So, first of all, where are my bees? No hives built?! What the fuck. I'm taking the highest hill at the center as 'Bees Hill' and install there some hives. Soon we'll be drinking sweet mead!

Then I made a quick glance on labors set on workers. Damn, it's a real mess! Almost EVERYONE has mason's and engraver's duties on. Mason's duties had some sence - we needed to make a wall, it's ok, but when it's finished we don't need hundred dabblng masons making furniture for our nice halls. But engravers? What's the point of having whole fort filled with low-quality foul pictures scratched on the walls? I have to fix that - remove those duties from those who don't have that skill. Same with mining - our legendary miners idling while novices are trying to dig some ore. What a waste!

Third. The caverns. Can out animals graze on cavern moss? If we make safe entrance, occupy caverns and wall it's edges off, we can check...

17th Hematite
Diplomat has left unhappy. Why haven't I hear of him before? Anyway, who cares, I have so much things to do.

That we don't have enough is grass lawns. Partly it's because our fort is too small, partly because dwarves trample the existing grass and occupy soil tiles with stockpiles and buildings. I think we need to left all soil for grazers and for farms, and make passages that reduce grass trampling.

how's the magma exiting/solving going? volcanoes replenish their magma, if something isn't done now...it's going to be hellish once it spills.

Moat is full, and the excess is spilling over the edge. I think it's quite safe. But it can be obsidianized, I guess.

it would be better, you never know were migrants/liasion/merchants are going to come from. If they end up near lava, it's burning time.
any siege happened? deaths/artifacts?

Come on, I just started!

Somewhere in the second cavern:

Should I consider it as an animal and try to capture it, or an enemy and kill it?

EDIT: Moss at cavern begins to burn. Holy crap, I think I shouldn't mess with it at all.

Unhappy liaison still wanders around. Oh, the bridge! I pulled the lever and it lowered... strange it has four mechanisms installed. One for lever itself, one for the bridge, and other two are for... what?

Mayor has imposed ban on exports - we should not trade mountain goat hoof goods. Huh... That's not that I care too much, but what are those hoofs for then?

Ah, finally I spotted the wild colony of honey bees outside the walls! Whoo-hoooo!!! I got to put them in my hives.. hey! Who raised the ridge?! Drop it back now!

8th Malachite

Migrants! As you said, Shade, they jumped out of the fog just next to flowing lava. I think they moved to the light or to the heat... Anyway, I think the can avoid it
We got 6 boys and girls - two animal trainers, two generic smiths, one talented armorer and one gem cutter/architect. And a baby llama among them. Well, guys, we have some work to do!
We dug out the section of obsidian layer and are moving furniture stockpile there. The reason is to clear soil for pastures.

12th Malachite

We need to work harder on separated pastures for them... But we are so short in grass and in space!

22nd Malachite
We had some minor cave-in, while building new trade depot over volcano. No one is injured, but a miner who was passing by suddenly stood still and mumbled "...Adamantine... I hear, it's there!"
Oh, if he's true... we have to reach it!!!

Inspired by that gossip, Solon Portalacred, Woodworked locked himself in a carpenter's shop and began sketching some stuff on little pieces of paper.

Looks great, but I don't like the talk of Cotton Candy. If you release the clowns, we will save scum your turn. ;/ And that's bad.

The flowing magma concerns me a bit as well. But this is how succession games go. I almost don't want to see what it will look like on my turn. XD.

And yess, all dirt everywhere should be made into a pasture cave for the animals. Some selective slaughter might work as well, I'll probably handle that myself when my turn comes.

Other than that, looks good Garrett. Keep it up. (and don't die to that flame beast)
