Well moving it to home appears to have worked...the hell...?  I know I have appropriate permissions in that directory...  I have never had this problem building anything before.  And I'm building programs constantly.  It was sitting in the downloads area of the common data partition that all three OS's on this machine can access.  This partition serves as my principle working area for virtual everything and no program, whether I wrote it or not, has ever complained about me working with it in that directory.

Anyway, I haven't had time to test the program itself, but it does appear to have built.  That is, make didn't spit out an error.  Anyway, would you have idea idea why it's whining about being where I had it?

It could be a noexec partition, but that doesn't explain why it has started now. That and PATH stuff are my only guesses.

Code diver search and rescue ops at your service! CCS includes several phenomena split over several files:

monthly.cpp - CCS appearance (and ramping up in power) and CCS-related graffiti
newgame.cpp - Obviously, CCS startup options (Strong CCS, no CCS)
news.cpp - CCS raids
newencounter - Handles creature generation, including CCS folks
chase.cpp - CCS chases (may happen after raids if CCS is active)
sitemode.cpp - Fighting the CCS, breaking their safehouses
creaturetypes.cpp - Controls all character types, including CCS vigilantes
commonactions.cpp - A bit of code that removes criminal flags for fighting the CCS, also a bit affecting public opinion on CCS
siege.cpp - Controls sieges, including CCS attacks on LCS
commondisplay.cpp - Nothing but "The CCS is raiding this location!"
sitemap.cpp - Removes the loot from CCS safehouses

These cover most, if not all, of CCS activities. I left out some bits that were mainly initializations and header files...

I have a report about a feature which kinda breaks the game.  However, this may not be applicable because I only played two versions ago, so this may have changed in the meantime.  Without further ado: Liberal Army Veterans.

Liberal Army Veterans have the possibility of starting at "Socialist Threat" rank which allows them to be able to recruit immediately.  Leadership was removed from the random skills recruits could possess because it made hard-won juice meaningless, I feel Liberal Army Veterans do the same.  Not only can you have a veteran recruit another veteran, they start with good combat stats and sometimes bring their own assault rifles.  The game is essentially over once you can recruit them, you can attack conservative sites and easily gain fresh replacements.

The vets don't show up until society is fairly liberalized, but once they do you can farm them safely in the university park.  As a solution, I would adjust the juice of Liberal Army Veterans to a lower level where they could not immediately recruit, like less than 20.  10 juice would satisfy the "bitter war veteran" theme without making them game-breakingly overpowered.

This exploit is even better than the ability to paint graffiti in the crackhouse but not get crimes added to your characters.  Since than loophole was closed, I think the vets could use a nerf too.

Eh, I don't think they're overpowered. Useful, certainly, but not overpowered. They certainly lose in power to brainwashed high-threat conservatives. Brainwashing high-threat conservatives isn't that hard, and probably slightly less grindy than looking for a specific liberal in the park. Psychology is easy to get up. The seduction is a bit of a hassle, maybe. And you'll need enough disguise/stealth to survive a few turns at the Int HQ. But after you got those, you can recruit infinity agents.

And you need the seduction/psychology anyway, to learn the location of the CCS stronghold, which is the only thing for which you really need combat skills.

^^^^^^^^ Yeah that's also a very overpowered tactic.  I think interrogation should be made even more difficult, and perhaps some conservatives should be completely immune to their effects.

On a different topic, I have a small bug to report.  When the monthly newspaper shows up with ASCII style graphics it comes out very garbled.  I remember in previous versions the pictures were usually very clear, but it seems that some of the lines are slightly misaligned, producing a messy picture.

Edit:
Another suggestion - Seduced liberals should not be able to seduce-recruit other liberals themselves.  I have two arguments for this.  First, it allows the player a safe if micromanagement heavy method of risk-free recruiting as long as they train up seduction to 2, at which point they are allowed to have at least two lovers.  For high charisma liberals, they can easily start with 8 charisma, train 8 seduction, and have 5 lovers.  This recruiting method circumvents the juice mechanic which I believe is at the very core of the game.

Second, the seduced liberal has a self-nullifying infatuation!  If that's true, why have any other lovers?  As a bonus note, I also firmly believe that brainwashed-kidnapped fake liberals should never be able to recruit by juice or by seduction.  I mean, it's not as if they're a REAL liberal, ya know?

Never heard of polyamory? It's not like it would shock LCS Elite Liberals, right?

As a bonus note, I also firmly believe that brainwashed-kidnapped fake liberals should never be able to recruit by juice or by seduction.  I mean, it's not as if they're a REAL liberal, ya know?

I also found that seduction recruitement weird, and talked about it on the Bugs, UI Issues and Minor Suggestions.

I know it was a while ago, but what were the reasons for simplifying the kidnapping recruitment options? I know it probably wasn't everyone's thing, but I love depth like that.

Time and again threads popped up with people saying "this is cool, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to actually convert anyone". By simplifying the mechanics and removing options that weren't as important from a gameplay standpoint, my hope is that players can understand how to use it and figure out how to succeed without becoming baffled. I'm not averse to more features, obviously; I created the interrogation minigame in the first place. But it's important that the system is usable as well as feature-rich.

What are the chances of it being reimplemented as an optional feature or something similar? I never played it but I'd love to try it, especially since the current system is laughably easy if you can afford the expensive props and have a Psychology skill of at least 10 (which is itself laughably easy to achieve).
