You used to be able to have multiple vehicles in a chase on your side. They would crash separately but escape together. I don't remember if you can still do that or not; it's never used, and the ramifications aren't really explored (you can't split up when driving in a chase, for example, or have one car bail out).

We need a pilot skill.
                                                                                                /\
Without it, I imagine flying the helicopter would go something like this: /  \
                                                                                                   \
                                                                                                    |
                                                                                                    |
                                                                                                *BOOM*

I learned this truth from video games. Helicopters look a lot easier to fly than they are.

"Get in!"
"Can you fly?"
"It's a helicopter... how hard could it be?"
...
"AAaaaAAaaaaAAAaaaahh!"
*smash*

^ I've thought of multiple vehicle chases, yes. It would open interesting possibilities like motorbikes (which would be even more interesting with six people on them, though). Perhaps it's the best to make single vehicle chases interesting first and then start working on multiple vehicle chases.

I was thinking about that helicopter - maybe it could be special stealable treat at the Military Camp?

Honestly I have no idea how the helicopter would even work. Where do my liberals keep it? How come everyone can't see where I'm landing the thing? Well, GTA San Andreas had a VTOL jet, so I guess a helicopter isn't the most unreasonable vehicle the game could give me. :P Stealing from the military base sounds like an okay way of getting one.

Bear in mind, you couldn't really do anything with the jet in San Andreas either, just fly around and shoot down helicopters and other planes, then fly into the clouds and bail out over the countryside to escape. I see landing a helicopter at your safehouse as great way to immediately get a siege.

Probably the best way to include helicopters is as an airborne attack.

Essentially, it works like this:

1) LCS team steals a helecopter

2) LCS team choses a target to "fly by"

3) LCS team flys by the location, and conducts an "attack".  This attack may be something violent, like shooting out the windows, assassinating an Arch-Conservative, or using the Apache's rockets to level the place.  Or, the attack can be more symbolic, such as setting the building's flag on fire, pelting pedestrians with Liberal shoes, or dumping red paint over the building.

4) Conservatives respond.  This may even be prior to the attack.  Helicopters, aircraft, and individuals on the ground shoot at the LCS chopper.  If the squad is skilled, perhaps they can outrun and/or outfight the Conservative response.  Squad weapons should be used, despite the lack of realism.  How alert society is, and how long the attack would take, would determine the response.

5) Resolution.  Either the chopper is destroyed, or the squad abandons the chopper.  There is no way the squad could hide or sell it, so they just land, destroy the chopper, and flee into the city.

Now, there should be different choppers based upon where the helicopter is stolen.

Police Station: Police Helicopter, complete with sniper rifle
Cable and Radio Stations: News Helicopter, no specials
Fire Station (free speech is not C+): Fire Fighting Helicopter, complete with water cannon
Firemen HQ (free speech is C+): Fire Demon Helicopter, with flame cannon and napalm rockets
Genetics Lab: Hunter's Helicopter, equipped with net (can capture hostages with this helicopter)
Intelligence HQ: Black Stealth Helicopter, equipped with sniper rifle and stealth coating (Less Conservative Response)
Corporate HQ: Corporate Helicopter, no specials
CEO Residence: Armor-plated Helicopter (less damage)
Army Base: Apache Helicopter, equipped with machineguns, rockets, cannon, and armor

I think Int HQ should have the best helicopter. It's a lot harder to break in there than the Army Base, on account of all the laser-guided guard dogs that can smell my liberal affiliations under nineteen levels of disguise skill.

Unrelated to this, I just managed to close down the police station without killing anyone. Just walked in, rescued some lost items that the careless cops had left lying around, opened the jail and walked out. I thought you had to shoot people to make the cops stop showing up for work. :|

Apparently stealing everything that isn't nailed down, including the prisoners, is enough to at least distract them from all other concerns besides getting their internal affairs in order.

I mean really, what would they do?

"So, uh, Lieutenant Matthew, as you are aware, all of our guns, documents, prisoners, personal effects, cruisers, state funding, and pocket change were stolen right out under our noses yesterday and....we don't really know how to...uh....do anything that we're....you know, supposed to be doing....  How are we supposed to handle this situation?"

"...Fuck this shit, I'm getting drunk and you're closing the station untill further notice. If the Governor expects me to clean this town, he can kill that LCS ninja his damn self. And he can send me recruits who don't notice everything vanishing from the precinct in under an hour. I swear, ever since they shut down the DS division it's been impossible to get anything done in this insane city. "

Well yeah. And back to the original question:

Normally, helicopters are used by the conservatives for chasing your liberals. They are airborne - you can't ram them, and they're unaffected by traffic. However, they'll only appear when you're notorious already, or when you're raiding a particularly well-equipped facility (Intelligence or military).

Die Hard 4 disagrees with the laws of physics.

Well bloody obviously you can ram them with another helicopter. And depending on which movie's/game's physics you use, pretty much everything can ram helicopters.

EDIT: What are the current magic tricks to get sitemaps.txt to work on Linux? Oddly, no complaints from the other files occur.
EDIT 2: More oddly, all files appear to be missing now.

Black magic and sorcery. If the xml files are missing, they are probably in the wrong directory. Sitemaps.txt probably belongs in the same directory, plus needs to be converted to unix line endings. Once this is done, set up a sacred circle and do an unholy demon summoning, then spill the blood of three virgin rams, and the game should run as expected.

Even stranger - when I run from command line, every file is missing, but when I build&run from NetBeans, only sitemaps is. I'm going to report back as soon as I figure out the correct mantra for summoning the files from the plane of Myrror.

Jonathan, I can't help but notice that there has been a recent trend of electronic documents associated with you vanishing into nothing while nobody is watching them.
