Okay guys, so here's the deal.  The upcoming W19 update, which has already been pushed back, has run into several annoying bugs that's thrown the devs entire debugging scedual off.  Still, Gabriel has finally broken down and let loose some tandilizing bits of information for the update.

Here's the details:
Revamped UI
Several new tools
23 more blocks
48 new textures
3 new game mechanics
2 more engines
5 weapons
1 glass block
Humanoid movement
and finally... Multiplayer

The state of play for all of these features are unconfirmed, or it may just be Gabriel teasing... but I highly doubt it. After so much speculation, there you go guys!

EDIT: Nevermind.  Gabriel just admitted the joke on me. So much for hope.

Mmm, yeah, Gabe had meant that sarcastically (hence the "and a partridge in a pear tree."), but I can see how that could have been misconstrued.  Unfortunately development just doesn't go that fast guys; not for such a small team.

All the same, this update is a very important milestone for Blockade Runner, and we hope you'll all enjoy it once it's ready.

Call me gullible, if you will.  I guess I just never learned that one thing about the Internet: Never Believe What You Read.  ::)

It would have been funnier if he started with 12, worked down to 2, and then ended with that ;)

Ah. Well, any one line in that breakdown is a good update.

Any two is an extra-awesome one.

Its in final stage bug hunting (debugging) now.  It should be out tonight though, unless they run into something big again.

Release 1 Week 19 is up!

This is the changelog:
- Added plasma weapon, used by activating helm block and using the Action 1 (default mouse) button
- Added menu sounds
- Added gameplay sounds
- Added in-game music
- Added tab menu option "Balance" (perfect or real) to tab menu
- Added tab menu option "hud" (show or hide)
- Added tab menu option "scale" (atomic, metric or basic)
- Added tab menu option "ship info" (show or hide)
- Added tab menu option "sounds" (on or off)
- Added directX 9.0c check. (warns you if you do not have directX 9.0c installed)
- Added new ships provided by Meardin, Zerebo, Viken, and DarkEvilMe
- Added ships start with "Balance" set to perfect
- Fixed inertia dampeners not working properly when holding shift
- Fixed game crashing when loading very large entities
- Fixed upwards expanding on an entity could cause rapid expansion

No joke this time.  I'm going to play around a bit with it, but already it looks like the weapons are going to be cool.  They're a simple block at this point, but the damage is done realistically depending upon the type of materials its impacting.  The music is also good.

Also on another update, for you guys who are still on the Lite version, Aaron has just said that they'd probably move the Lite release up to W14 or W16 because of how long it took to get W19 out.

yea i played around with, it, added like 10 plasma-launchers to a ship and started whaling on the biggest ship i could find.. each shot only took out a block or two of its armor, and it was quite large, so cutting through it with shots took quite some time... But it was doable.

But yea, Looking good.

Nice. I had some fun there blowing holes in a ship. Pretty strong. I'm guessing that at this stage it doesn't differentiate damage based on the type of block. I'm hoping steel blocks will hold up a little better, because otherwise you won't last a second against decent weapons without your shields!

That's a balancing issue that will have to wait a bit.  Still, just be careful.  If you move your ship while firing too mcuh, it can damage your own ship.  Still, after seeing some of the destruction we've done with the weapon already, Aaron has had the htought of putting in multiplayer sooner rather than later.  Rather that happens is up to them, though.

Still, W20 release shouldn't take nearly as long, and now that alot of things in, we won't have to wait so much for new features to come online.  8)

Also, note that the more weapon 'blasts' on the screen, the slower the game gets.  Right now each blast is individually written into memory, so it can cause massive slows down.  Aaron has made the suggestion of going slow with it.

That's all for tonight guys. I'm going ot go hit the sack.  C'ya later, and good blasting!  ;D
