You don't, head.  Each year with be a fully functunal game by itself.  Year 1 is just the base.  Year 2 and the following will add more content and expand the existing universe, like expansion packs for say, The Sims.  People pay outragous pricing for those games.  This is infinitely more enjoyable and more cheap.

If you do not wish to pay for it, then go with the Lite version, which is only a few weeks behind the (then) current production.  You won't have access to all the features, but you can still play around with it for free, an unlimited demo.

Thought I should alert you guys to the fact that it has begun. The building of big ass ships to show off to other people. I'm very excited about the kind of user created content we are going to see in the near future.

Even with the fairly basic building materials and textures available at the moment, we already have things like...

Yes indeed, Yolan.  As a matter of fact, I thought I'd share an in-progress picture of my self-dubbed Destroyer ship.

... MOVED

Note, that's assuming the picture can show up on here. Haha.

Yes, it worked.  Now I gotta figure out how to put it in a spoiler. Haha. Oh well.   This picture is one from earlier today, so there's been a bit more stuff added to it.  It weighs nearly 200,000 mass units now.  Its a little over 200 meters in length, with a single massive cannon that runs through the center of the entire vessel.  I hope you guys enjoy.  8)

@The Merchant: I was just about to say that I need to figure out how to do the spoiler thing.  >:(

Yes, Shadenight, there will be an active multiplayer that allows you to team up with other players to man an entire ship, either as a bridge crew or as a small-manned crews for a smaller vessel.

I would totally adore a Minecraft-Artemis cross with moar stuff, and would easily pay the 55 dollars they cost combined.

This may end up being the best of both.  Team-based chat/mic support for multiplayer, ship building, resource gathering, construction, and prodecurely random planets, astroid fields, all the good stuff.  Save your $55 and keep an eye out on Blockade Runner, Breadbocks.

I didn't mind it, supporting the developers is worth the cost, even if it was 60$ it'd still be worth it.
60$ a year, is the price xbox live costs, and honestly they need our money more than microsoft needs it.
