One thing to note is that Toady removes temporary mutes and suchlike from the Moderation Log

One other thing to note is that that moderation log is barely a month old.

Are you trying to suggest that Toady is some sort of law-layin' banhammerin' fool?  As in "oh lawd he done banned 10 7 5 people in a month"?

About the numbers:  10 accounts.  7 people, two of which were already banned -> 5 new people.

Yeah. Well. This is a bad month. You do not often see around here what happened. Take that out, and you only see like two people. Not too bad.

I wish the moderation logs also had log of what was objectionable, it would be entertaining to read those posts.

That seems like such a bad idea.

The way moderation work here is nauseating. With the way no other contact information is available, banning become this disproportionate thing that irrecoverably cuts of all your means of contacting someone else no matte what. Once they're banned there is no means to do things like ask for their email or other means to keep in touch before it's to late. it DESTROYS FRIENDSHIPS! Utterly, permanently, and involuntary brining great harm even to the friend that weren't banned and did nothing wrong. That's a WAY, WAY to heavy punishment for any amount of trolling, it's not lick kicking someone out from a fun activity, it's equivalent to EXILE. In many places through history, exile has been considered worse than execution.

I don't think the moderators have a any grasp of how many and how strong friendships are maintained solely through these forums, and what happens to them when someone is banned. How important they are to many people as more than a place to discus a game. If they did, they'd have fixed this problem ling ago.

Edit: to clarify, I understand that moderation is necessary in some way, and that this place is much better than almost everywhere else. That I'm saying is that the way bans are treated by the software is incompatible with the structure of the community in ways that cause massive human suffering no matter how careful you are. The software needs fixing before moderation can become workable, and until then no possible moderation policy will be able to strike a balance in this dilemma. It works on other forums because they very very rarely form the kind of deep, personal bond that is common here.

Other than one of my posts in the Japan thread that was "mysteriously" deleted I don't have any issues.

I don't understand either, Armok. How can you maintain a friendship through a web forum?

Armok.

Usually, if you are a friend with someone, you would have another way to talk to someone, not just here.
If you don't have another way to talk, then you're not really friends. Just people in passing...

Also, I have no problems, I mean, why shit up the place, when they have to work to clean it, not to mention other people who may be repulsed by it.

-snip-
It's not that hard to get a contact email address from someone you like before they get banned though. It's as simple as a PM "Hey, can I get your email cause you're pretty cool."

And likening it to exile is being over-dramatic. In ancient times exile was a big deal because communities were often inhospitable (to say the least) to outsiders and you've basically removed people from their support network entirely. Really, it's more like being kicked out of a group. There's no risk of death involved.

-blah-

Not everybody treats this forum as their sole source of human contact.  I'm sad that Dasleah et al got banned because I don't like a lot of the same things they don't like about the forum, and they were cool guys, but I'm not devastated.

Yeah man. Everyone I like in this fourm I have asked for their emails. Really, if the only way to talk to some one is though a fourm, it is your own damn fault when you get cut off.

Yeah. I can kinda understand (Barely) the point that armok makes since he doesn't want to get cut off from people he likes, but if it's that important find other ways to communicate to people besides the forum. It's not gonna be here forever.

And if they don't want to do it then yeah. They weren't your friends to begin with. All that said this is one of the least ban happy boards I've ever known. If this is out of hand then I think maybe message boards aren't for you.

While I have not read into the banning of Ze Spy, I am going to once again advocate the ban dodge of Retro, if you're out there, I sure hope you read this. Just knowing he was there and wanted to help improve the state of the forums was very nice.
