items moulder over time
« on: April 24, 2011, 09:36:45 am »

I think some items such as clothes could moulder over time if left on ground. this would be useful after sieges when tons of goblin clothes are scattered all over. this way you could just forget them and still not lose fps

Clothes actually do wear over time. I'm not sure if it's only when they're being worn though. And it's bugged.

I think it's the way towns develop now. In the beginning, people move into a town. Then they start producing tables, which results in more and more tables. Soon tables represent a significant portion of the population, they start lobbying for new laws and regulations, putting people to greater and greater disadvantage...

Maybe make it so if clothing item "X" is not in ownership and is not in a stockpile/cabinet, vermin (moths) will make said clothing decompose at a much faster rate than normal.

Clothes rot, but only when they are being worn - clothes left on the ground do not rot, and will remain there forever.

Having clothing rot away over time would be a good way to get rid of some of it.

Or maybe you could use them as an alternative fuel source. Perhaps not usable in the smelting of pig iron and such, but maybe there could be a job at the Clothier's Workshop that makes a bundle of rags that can be used to smelt ore.

...what? That's what I do with my old socks. I forge mighty blades and arrows. *nods*

Or alternately, we could have a "rags" item that clothing can be converted into, and be given a "repair clothing" function that lets us patch worn clothing with rags, destroying old clothing, and replacing it with new clothing.

Things decomposing on the ground seems logical, especially since there is going to be rust and old battlefields eventually. Generally having items lying outside in the rain could degrade them over a year or so would keep the forts from gathering ever increasing amounts of goblin loot outside them. A level of tatteredness per season until disappearing would be a good pace.

Somewhat related, imho adamantine clothing should not degrade. The material itself is pretty indestructible after all.
