Treatment
« on: April 24, 2011, 05:18:10 am »

Well I recently heard of this game and got hooked into it right away. It's not everyday that you see a game with a lot of features like this.

I'm into Adventure Mode, and so far I'm enjoying it, but now my hero has a mangled leg of some sort and I'm forced to move on the ground, is there any treatment to heal thy leg? The Docs seems to act like any other normal peasants.  :'(

Apart from complicated manipulation of Runesmith enabling you to switch the character back and forth between adventure mode and fortress mode, no. And generally, that isn't worth it. Depending on how much you like the character/how awesome you want to be, you can either savescum or continue playing and hope infection doesn't set it.

Also, if there is little/no nerve or tendon damage and no broken bones, it should heal up after a few days, preferably of sleep. I recall one character that recovered completely from multiple red limbs, partial loss of the ability to grasp and trouble breathing with nothing more than a small scar on the hand, without any medical attention.

If you grab a crutch that should help too, although you'll be pretty slow until you become more skilled in crutch walking.

Aye thanks, problem solved. I found out about the crutch earlier. It does come useful when missing a leg, this shows how realistic the game is.

Sounds like you've already figured out at least 80% of it, but here's some advice on dealing with missing limbs:

If your leg is just mangled as you say (and your lower spine is not broken/leg is not missing) then all you have to do is simply press "T" (note the caps) and move at least one space. Good as new. However if it is missing/spine broken, then the others have covered that (but with the former you won't be able to walk, even with a crutch).

Edit: Also if a motor nerve was severed in your leg then it also acts as if you are missing that limb (but it can still be chopped off and cause bleeding. No pain, though).

Don't confuse him, there is a pain in a leg without a motor nerve :). The sensory nerve is a different issue.

Once I had sensory nerves cut in both of my arms, and I could wrestle wolves without real problems, because they kept biting me in hands and I didn't feel it.

I overzealed there though, because I've finally bled to death due to multiple bites on my hands and arms :/.

Yeah I love when only sensory nerves are severed and not motor. I said motor though because I've never had it where a motor nerve was severed but not a sensory nerve, so I just assumed they went hand in hand.

Edit: i.e. A motor nerve never being able to be severed without sensory.

Sorry I am not making sense, it is very late and I am running on barely any sleep :P

Best option is raw hacking.  Modify nerve tissue to regenerate, found in tissue_template_default.txt.  Now retire your adventurer and play a fort for a little while.  Then when you're done with fort mode, unretire your adventurer and re-edit your nerves to stop regenerating.

Works for me every time.  Look at it as extended bed-rest
