I hate bugs...
« on: December 24, 2006, 05:47:00 am »

Hi, DarkTreader here.  Just started playing DF Tuesday, and I've been addicted to it - 22 hours of straight play the first night.  :D

Anyway, I've tinkered around with a few different games, and I've run across a bug that I haven't been able to fix/define/etc.  It seems to be linked to building either a door or a bed, I can't figure out which, or where.  Anyone run across this at some point?

Yeah, sorry.  Forgot about that part >_<

As soon as I queue up the bed/door construction on a certain part of my fortress, I wander off to do other things and within a minute or so it crashes.  Since that's the only thing that I -consistently- do each time (just got a wave of immigrants in), that's all I can narrow it down to.

As to what the crash is, I couldn't tell you, unless someone knows of a way to figure it out from the hex and fubar that Windows calls its 'error reporting system'.  :D

If there's a reproducible bug, or a crash that happens within ten seconds of loading the game, I can take a look at the save file and possibly fix it up.  If it takes longer than that, I've never had it happen over here when people send in files.  So if you can play the game out a bit longer and get a save where something is bad happening reliably, it should be easy to resolve.

toadyone@bay12games.com or somewhere downloadable
region#.sav + region# folder in some kind of zip/rar

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner, chief.  Was out of town for the holidays without a connection.

I've tinkered around with it over Xmas break, and it -has- to be some form of construction that causes the problem.

Here's a link on my wiki for the world directory + save zip file, a bit more explanation as to what I've done, and an image of the apparent offending spot.

All right, I'll give it a shot when I can.

edit:  Is the region2.sav file there somewhere?  It wasn't in the zip.

>_<

Yeah, sorry.  It linked the wrong zip file on the wiki - apparently, it wanted you to have the region for the Bloodlines game, not the one with the bug in it.  The file link is fixed now (should be bugzip.zip).

All right, I've downloaded this and will check it when I get to it (the saves have piled up).

Appreciated, chief.  Same kind of problem keeps happening in other games, as well - like if I progress too far into the mountain, or dig it out too much, the game dies on me.

Mayhap it's something as simple as just my PC not being able to handle that many active objects.  Who knows.
