EDIT: Nen, I've seen the dungeon back walls smashed with my own two eyes. It might require a high tier hammer, though, dunno. The demonite hammer definitely works.

Put it another way. I used dynamite on the dirt layer, and it didn't remove the walls. Dynamite didn't budge dungeon blocks in my world either, so I assumed you couldn't hammer them.....keep forgetting that dynamite is not the end-all-be-all-block smasha.

Will the demonite hammer take out the dirt layer back walls? Because that's the sticking point in this version I think. All those walls are flagged as unbreakable. But I'll go experiment some more.

So some worlds are bigger then? I hope i get a small world because having everything closer together would make it easier to find.

It can be a double-edged sword. I gave my buddy this and watched him play an hour, and he had corruption literally not 2 screens to the left from his spawn. Basically denied him that whole side of the map for the first two hours. The "underground" layer also started basically directly beneath his spawn, so he had worms harrassing him the minute he started digging. With just a wooden sword, it was pretty brutal. A devourer followed him to his spawn and killed him probably 8 times before it finally wandered off, stuffed to the gills with severed sprite heads.

So, small is action packed. I think medium might be the right speed for me....because in my first 6 hours in my world, I found absolutely nothing. Almost no ore, no chests, no hearts, nuthin'.

Cute :P I think we've had our fun on that, let's let it go.

In one of Pbats videos one of the devs came on and built with dungeon blocks, explaining that you had to dig away at the sides and can't mine from the center.

For th'dirt, you have to work your way from an outside edge, it's as simple as that. You can drag a single line of open space to where'er you feel like building and work from there. The layer below the dirt works too, iirc. Any hammer at all will work for that. Interestingly, dynamite will take out the back walls on dungeons, but not the actual dungeon blocks. They're explosion immune.

The amount of sand in the map is finite. You can plant grass seeds to make grass grow on dirt surfaces. If you wanna really terraform a world, you'd have to do small. Really terraforming just one large world would take a year of someoen's life probably.

Hopefully they give us some advanced world generation options. It would be trivial to do so I think. Then we can really make jungle worlds, hell worlds....and have most of it done ahead of time, instead of going block by block.

So THAT's what that meant. I didn't really get it at the time. Time to go make some dungeon then. Thanks guys.

You get a mixture of every biome per map. If you to have single type maps you'd probably have to do extensive terraforming.

Oh. Do you think there will ever be an option to start a themed world? I think that would be very cool.

I don't think the experience  would be as rich, some monsters can only be found in certain biomes.

I don't doubt it's on the laundry list of features they want to do, in some form.

Also, prospective thread title for the game, Terraria: There is no pause, only off.

Re-iterating, because it can pretty much always stand re-iteration. The maps are freaking huge. The biomes, which make up significant fractions of the maps, are sized accordingly. It's hard to really get a feel for how gigantic these maps are from just watching someone play, or seeing the screenshots. The amount that a single screen shows, in respect to the whole map, is terribly small. You don't really get a feel for the size until you watch someone tunnel nonstop for 15-20 minutes and not breach into another layer of the map. Even the small worlds are sized for multiplayer. They're made to support 4+ people.

It's pretty incredible.

Yeah. A huge part of the experience is moving a short distance and finding a whole new world to mess around in, then suddenly, you go back to where you start, and it is fun all over again.

So I made this shack here and I have the 50 silver coin requirement for a merchant, but one has yet to move in. Is the guide taking up the shack?

And do npcs occupy multiple story buildings? If they don't the Guide probably IS taking up the shack.
