Any word on the mod-ability of Terraria?  Will the game be capable of sprites that look better than 8-bit, to be provided by modding community?

Been said repeatedly that there will be no mod support on the devs part on release and more than likely eventual dev support for client-side reskinning. So none to start, some later.

That said, the latest leak apparently has unobfuscated, though also uncommented, source code. There's no real telling to what extent that's going to influence the eventual mod presence.

As for the capability of it being modded, it's C#+XNA, whatever that means. Presumably, whatever can be done via that, can be done to Terraria given enough effort.

Well, since it seems the leak was made by the devs "(If you're wrong or Toady has to come in here, I'll string you up by the neck), would anyone be interested in multiplayer?
The leak being done via Dev accident does not excuse it being an illegal leak.

I'm disappointed that the leak happened.

However, as a result, they are definitely getting my money the minute the game is available legit, and possibly a $5 apology-donation, should donation become an option.

And I am really looking forward to whatever they work on next. These guys have an impeccable sense of design.

Yea I'm purchasing 2 copies myself.  One for me one for a friend.  I have more interest in it than my friend, but I feel they deserve the extra $10 and if my friend plays it multiplayer with me that's more fun for me anyway.

About the server stuff though, am I the only one that gets the vibe that this game isn't really meant to be played on a big central, one server for a whole community deal?  I have this feeling that getting any more than 5 or 6 folks on at the same time might be a bit overkill.

I mean the trailer shows at max 4 people iirc, and even that looked chaotic as hell.  Imagine 10 people.  I mean sure folks don't have to all be in the same area, but as much as I enjoy the 2D style, a 2D style doesn't really leave much room for alternate build sites.   Especially since starting out you won't have the entire surface to build on, you have the surface only so far as the corruption is to the east and west.  Because players starting out can't cross the corruption easily(at all).  And even for mid gear folks, it's still a tough obstacle between their house and respawn every time they die.

East, west, up, down... the corruption can be dug under or built over with sufficient effort. Just need a lot of non-dirt blocks for the latter and patience for the former. I've been seeing screenshots of underground houses all over the place, now, and even a few snaps of the sky islands.

Can build = true is probably a greater weapon than everything short of teleportation and wall hax ala bosses and fire imp projectiles, and it's a weapon available right from the start. Even devourers and skeleton worms can only jump so high, heh.

As for the numbers thing... I'unno. It'd probably depend more on how much the players clumped together than anything else. Everything we've seen says these maps are freaking huge. Easily enough for 8-15 folks to have their spot for mining and building, especially if some of them's specifically grouping up to work an area over.

The spawn thing's an issue, though. Looking forward to support for moving the team spawns around. That'd at least help the problem a bit.

EDIT: Linked on SA, from PBat's latest. The maps are large, people. Space is going to have a hard time being an issue :P

Remember. They're wider than they are tall.

Yeah, once team spawns can be moved, space will not be an issue for up to 16-20 players on the Massive maps, or even Large ones. I'm glad to see buckets in action, btw.

Also, just to give the sense of the maps' scale another kick up, the maps extend upward for a good bit as well.

What I noticed is that the parallaxing background of the Underworld is nothing more than a new skybox - presumably, nothing will stop you from building stone walls over it. At least, the brick walls of the underworld forge thing in the video would suggest it.

That's from May 4th on Blue's twitter. They've had the ability to move your spawn in for a while now.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

It still doesn't say "team spawn points", so while the general ability may be there, it might still not be team-specific.

Still, I guess that solves the problem of a bad start - just move elsewhere and move the spawnpoint there too!

My town has no building space.  :<  It's a really dinky town, with a little growth of trees and then these two hills riddled with holes and tunnels.  Nearly all the buildings are tiny, single-roomed and stone - one's built in the ground in the hill, and the biggest is a little three-story tower, with the bottom deserted due to Bloodmoon.  Stars've been busted, too, which is lame.

Definitely buying when it comes out.  All of my money, et cetera.
