I think we've known about that for a couple days now :P

Word from the devs is that the game is literally releasable, right now, but they need to work out some "procedural" stuff first -- which roughly translates into sussing out legalities, infrastructure, and distribution. The time frame given by Blue a wee bit ago, iirc, can be paraphrased as "anywhere from next week till the end of July, depending." Then caveatted as sooner more likely than later. Chances are quite high that we'll see Terraria in our hands before the end of May, from what I've seen.

They also have quite a few balance quirks to smooth out, like all the metals being obsolete an hour or two in if you are lucky with surface deposits, and one grove of supertrees supplying you for the rest of the game.

Yeah I kinda noticed that too about metals.

They go fast and when they go they are pretty much left to the curb.

Dammit, I have been trying to save my money. Oh well, I still have more useless stuff around the house to sell. I can't wait to play this is my friend.

Whenever it is released, I'll be buying straight away. Been watching Yogscast play it and it looks great.

I dont suppose we can build with metals? That would atleast leave some sort of use for the obsolete metals later in the game. And I want a tower made of precious metals.

Yeah, it looks like you can turn ingots into bricks and chandeliers along with other things.

Oh no. How dare they act out against pointless and immature whining about someone's Let's Play, that would only devolve into a flame-war. Shame on them for not allowing people to openly bash their testers for no good reason.

We deserve our right to tell PBat he sucks for being himself and at making videos for games he enjoys!

.. Ahh, Bay12. You are a great community most of the time, but you have some odd faults.

Right, because someone saying, "lol they really gave the most useless LPer alpha access?" is going to cause a flame war and deserves a permanent ban.

Please note this wasn't even me.

New PBat video was fun ^^ he dis the usual stupid things but at least we know that the max height in Terraria is incredibly high (compared to MC).
The game does need to be balanced out though, PBat just walked through the dungeon with all the skeletons and he didn't even had to do anything about them.

From what I understand the creators don't mind the game being too easy. If it is too easy it is your own fault and you should use less equipment :P

This is of course ignoring that both the toughest areas on the game use the EXACT same enemy except with different graphics :P

Also gold doesn't become obsolete exactly (I've heard it is used for some later tools) but to my knowledge unless the game uses Russian dolls (and I dear hope this isn't a Russian Doll crafting system) you won't need much after you got enough bars stashed away at home... Even then any player would be glad to give you stacks of gold bricks for other types of armor.

Huh, I just noticed in the latest videos that the deep underground has parallax. No background layer. I think the background layer only extends down with the dirt BG.

I'm guessing that means progressively more advance equipment requires the previous tier as materials for the crafting (so a gold pick recipe would be something like "silver pick + gold = gold pick" and the next tier would be "gold pick + nexttierite = nexttier pick") which it doesn't seem to for the most part. There ARE some recipes like that that we've seen (the star cannon recipe is one, sort of, in that it turns the minishark + other stuff into the star cannon) but the vast majority seem to be "raw materials + other raw materials = finished goods."

If this is what he means by Russian dolls then it comes from this nesting doll metaphor.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

I'll say one thing about Terraria....I've never seen so many 14-year-olds sporting Neko avatars. Seriously, sometimes I space off reading their forums and think I've somehow ended up in Touhou forum instead. I know it comes with the territory and the genre, but it reminds me the kind of demo I'll be playing this game with.

I am already fearful of the demographic.  I shall huddle fearfully on private servers, isolated in our fortresses of bone and magma, never to breach to the community.  Unless we have a lot of dynamite stocked up anyway.
