What do you mean? You make the space forge to make the space vehicles IN SPACE!

Not that I really blame them too much. Looking at how melee combat works and animates, it makes ranged seem much more natural.

Even if it just ends up turning into fantasy Soldat :P

Though I like Soldat.

I dunno, the arc provides a good coverage for melee attacks. I would like to know how many things it can hit at once though, as it seems when there are too many monsters in a stack they don't hit them all.

It may depend on the weapon, though it seems like 2 or 3.

Melee weapons are just weird, it isn't poor mind you (very good weapons in fact) it is just that when I compare Melee weapons to range, I can see which seems more natural.

I thought that the melee arc is a bit weird too, but I got used to it while watchilg LP, so I guess it's okay :).

I mean that in any case the tech building is going to be silly, but as long as we don't make them with our hands (i.e. need some advanced tools/workshops first) I guess it's okay gameplay-wise.

The melee arc animation does feel abnormal at first, but it seems to work out for the gameplay. Most action-platforming games limit your attack range to a precise area, generally a fairly small one. Using this area to it's full potential while dodging attacks is what defines your skill in these games. We can't really say if Terraria's melee range is balanced or not by watching, so maybe we'll find out in the future.

I'd like to see weapons with different arcs as well - a dagger with a quicker but smaller arc for instance would be nice.

The weapons definitely have different arcs, you see it in videos. I am not sure about speed.

Deon turned up as soon as someone mentioned his name.

I'm scared.

Has anyone else noticed the sheer variety of odd (interesting) objects that were shown off in the trailer? Like the vine thing where the guy was climbing up by using vines? All that kind of stuff?

...Are you seriously trying to argue that Notch is a horrible person because he links to interesting games? Seriously? Do everyone a favor and never, ever work in any kind of marketing or public relations department ever. Your argument is so backwards it's absurd. You're basically saying Notch is evil because he gives an indie company customers.

I think he's saying that Notch is either stupid or malevolent. Which, to be fair, seems pretty likely.

But there is a build up, any sci-fi equipment is endgame stuff.

I was wondering about the sci-fi stuff and I was thinking you get it from crashed spaceships or something like that.

EDIT: I do think they should do a spawn limit per area. Something like

if x > 4
then x = spawn limit
( x = (depth/3) )
if not
then 4 = spawn limit

Spawn limit causes the area around the player to depopulate. This means spawns turn off and allow the player a bit of exploration.

So.

if number of enemies killed => spawn limit
spawn = 0

Or something like that.

I know that at the very least a pickaxe's speed depends on its material. Redigit made a silver pickaxe in one of the videos and noted that it swung faster.

No it isn't.

I'm actually pretty curious if the melee pvp will be skill or luck based. ...aside from that it will be heavily equipment based of course.

What do you mean luck-based? It looks like every time they hit something it does the same amount of damage (so no RNG there) and your arc is the same every time you swing with the same delay between swings each time (assuming you're spamming attacks).

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Pretty sure I'm going to buy this when it's released. I never bought (nor have I ever really felt the urge to play) Minecraft, but the gameplay in Terraria looks ridiculously fun even for such an early iteration.
