I think it's a matter of opinion, really. I'd love it if I didn't HAVE to find and make everything in Minecraft every time, but I know others feel differently. Plus aren't there Minecraft mods that introduce NPC merchants? If there isn't a demand for it, then why make it/use it?

The same goes for the aesthetics. I like the smaller "resolution" of the Terraria blocks compared to the Minecraft ones. I guess they really aren't all that much smaller compared to the characters themselves, but at the scale you're viewing the game Terraria just appeals to me more. I'm not saying one's better than the other, just that I like one more.

I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

Anyone who said they didn't want Merchants is no friend of mine. I think applying things decided by the so called minecraft community is a BAD idea and this game should evolve on it's own. In fact increasingly I'm starting to consider the MC community less mature than even the worst MMORPGs..

That merchant looks like Galuf. But without the awesomeness he radiates.

When will Terraria be available to purchase?

Terraria will be released sometime this year. Since we have only been under development for a short time, we want to make sure there is enough gameplay and that we don't rush to put it out before it's ready.

"Sometime this year"

That made me sad

Reminds me a great deal of Clonk but with better character controls. That I can dig.
Totally. I don't know why so many people say "2d minecraft", it looks more like "blocky Clonk" for me, with less wonky controls and great monster fights!

Far less sticking in terrain that made Clonk unbearable.

Maybe if they get enough positive feedback, they'll do what Taleworlds did, and sell you a license while the game is in beta and give you access to full release build and future patches. I coughed up $20 for M&B like 7 years ago or something, before it was half as nice as it is now, and I'd be willing to do so with this, up to around $15.

whoa... they're releasing them faster than they'd initially planned. The "release this year" quote's actually a good thing, I'd say. They're keeping it realistic and at least it's not NEXT year!
