Yeah, it's like "Notch, by virtue of your success, you're never allowed to ever note anything you might find cool that isn't Minecraft, because people you have no control over will ruin it."

Not even fair by half.

And Neonivek, you've been upgraded to Silver. I don't recall saying this is going to be the best game ever, or hyping it anymore than to talk about it. Let's move on from this rather pointless discussion though, it's not really anything that will get resolved. Spawns will be addressed, we haven't seen all the enemies, and it's too early to start flinging poo.

Ohh I know.

I just have to be careful because I know this is going to be a game that absorbs hype, and when a game gets hyped enough it gets a defensive following.

It really is the defensive following. While yes there is nothing to say current problems won't be fixed, it isn't to say that problems won't stay.

Oddly enough it is the sci-fi elements that sort of weaken the experience for me in that the game is noticably medieval

Just a question..

If we build it, they will come?

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

I kind of agree. So far it only really seems like jet packs and laser pistols though, unless I missed something significant.

They do use mana, so it's more magic than sci-fi.

I think there is space armor too but I can't get a good look.

I know that technically you use magical objects to make them... but it still sticks out even if your using magic clouds and making a device to let them out in a constant stream.

The one part of the Letsplay that actually purplexed me was when he couldn't pick up zombie heads.

The part of the Letsplay I liked the most however I guess was watching the undead hoard and bunch of creatures basically siege the town.

I'd hope they would maybe work on combat a bit so it isn't Arm waggle combat, but I guess it works alright as it is.

The sci-fi-y stuff is weird, but it doesn't really detract from the game. As long as you accept it as a game that even the developers can't take completely seriously :P

I get that people don't like the mixing of genres, but from a gameplay aspect a gun that shoots lasers isn't a big stretch from a bow that shoots arrows. With equipment being largely based on upgrades, it doesn't seem like a big deal to me. And personally I don't want to be the guy shooting wooden arrows into the gaping maw of Cthulhu's eye.

Starting to wonder how game hosting will work. Will you have to have a server running 24/7 to get a persistent world? Or maybe it can be saved to some kind of world file like it would be in SP, that could be loaded by the server.

The thing is Taz is that in Minecraft's case they cover it up and fit it into the game (Redstone seems to be a material that produces a strong magnetic charge when heated.)

It isn't bad if there is progression.

Ultima had sci-fi and stone age and it often fit quite well (though sometimes rather starkly).

Putting two rocks together and getting a rocket ship... however

If there was a build up to laser guns, flame throwers, space armor, and UFOs then.

But there is a build up, any sci-fi equipment is endgame stuff.

Not exactly... (From what I understand, Jetpacks arn't that hard to make if you know where to look. Same with guns)

But what I meant was. It needs to build up to the point where you would believe you get sci-fi.

Even if it took you 20 pairs of different colored rocks to make a space ship it would be odd. It just doesn't match what is around.

But that's what you do in Red Alert and Tiberium Sun :P. You get multicolored rocks and build tanks and spaceships.

If they made it at least A BIT believable, you wouldn't be EVER making any vehicles/aircraft. Because you know, there is no way to make it alone from the stone age. It's just for fun.
