Hey everyone, This here's a game that everyone should check out!

Miner Wars is a space game with 6DOF (Six Degrees of Freedom, meaning you can move in ANY direction) with great combat, mining ability and ship customization.  There will be two separate games, a single player/Co-Op/Multiplayer version, and an MMO.  The best part is that your missiles and drilling equipment actually makes dents/holes in the asteroids! 

You can purchase the game for just under $14.00 (9.99 Euros) since its 70% off for Pre-Alpha purchases.

The next big update is due this summer and I saw something about modular space stations... Looks very exciting.

Okay, so discussion:

From what I have heard it is a fairly generic space shooter with some terrain deformation. Both have been done before, though not in the same game as far as I know. I haven't played it because the demo won't run on my computer.

What is there to do besides chase each other around and shoot?

there is no playable game at this point, nor has there been any real progress in the last 6 months other than them raising a million euros. They are hiring a team now. It seems like we were sold a proof-of-concept instead of an Alpha

So... a lot like Minecraft.

less than that, minecraft has been playable and under semi continous updates for the past year or more. Minerwars released what is essentially a tech demo where you can shoot some rocks, and then ... nothing other than the odd post on their web page about cash flow.

their original trailliered release date for the game was summer 2011, given the (as far as i can tell ) negligable progress over the past 6 months i doubt they will make this.

This is probably the worst preorder ive made to date, many other idies ive either pre/alpha ordered, or just followed have communicated progress much better. I dont think miner wars is dead but it oft looks it.

however when it does get built it could be a good game. Its essentially a space MMO where ou form clans and mine resources and shoot each other

Well if they really did rake in millions on preorders personally I wouldn't be working all that hard either.

As it is, I'm still considering purchasing the pre-alpha.  I wish I'd been able to purchase prior to December, though, as that included the MMO, whenever that is released.  They plan to make it somewhat like Eve Online with Destructible terrain and no subscription fee from what I've read.  Also I saw something about modular stations, which would be really epic... No idea how that would pan out, though.

Oh I can answer that.  It's not going to.  Whatever version you buy right now will be the only version ever available again.

i second Aqizzar, dont buy now, wait until they release something that could be considered a game and show real progress

Well, like I said in the first post, the next largish update is due this summer.  I also saw one of the Devs talking about modular space stations.  People who've bought the game were playing with the Editor which seems to allow you to create your own sectors, then play on them in sandbox mode. (Pretty cool)
