It plays nothing like all of the hype they used to get the pre orders. It's not really about mining asteroids and building hidden bases inside. It's more about fighting russians in scripted missions. Meh. Not a bad space combat game, but nothing like what they advertised.

You know, I remember being interested in this and playing one of the really early alphas, being bored of the lack of things to do, and wondering why I bothered getting all of those linkclicks for something not terribly great.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Good news! This was released today.
Better(?) news! I can't play it because there is a bug where the game doesn't recognize any controls and you can't move your ship. Also, it apparently only uses 1 core. I could play it for a little bit today, though. However, with all the physics they threw in, that means during any combat the game starts to stutter.
These are both bugs they've known about for a while, which frustrates me quite a bit. I can't imagine how they thought releasing now was a good idea, especially as this game is supposed to fund their MMO idea.

Has anyone actually brought the current release?  And if so is it any good?  My googlefu seems to be just bringing up piles of people being shitty about the alpha state it was in 6 months ago.

If you want my opinion...

Over-hyped campaign for funding + "accidental" confusion between "pay for the alpha" and "pay for my idea" + lame, dishonest referral attempts all over the place....

= i'd try the "demo" at most. When I'm done checking out all the more interesting looking things people are talking about in the "Other Game" subforum.

A lot of the bugs have not been touched, it seems. I was really surprised the other day when I played the beta, saw that it wasn't running very well, and then noticed the release date was just days away.

This thing is neat.
But I lost interest in it long ago, once they started being confusing. Why would you make both a game and an mmo when you haven't finished either of them? Also, isn't this the 5th thread we've had here just because of referrals causing the other threads?

To be fair, if you read from the start this has been necro'd something like three times, so people are doing fairly well with keeping with one topic.

However, I wouldn't touch this with a ten-foot pole given the history of complaints that look consistent for a year and a half now, from alphaproof of concept to release.

Oh wow I really didn't pay for vapourware all those years ago.

Can't wait to play on the persistant MMO server where you mine stuff and build bases and then mine more stuff and build bigger bases and blow up the bastards blowing up your miners and bases

Huh? What do you mean the dev split the game shortly after I paid for the alpha access?

Well, for better or for worse, theres always a worse planned game/vaporware, because Your World exists. In the broadest sense of the word.

I bought the alpha a long time ago. I stopped keeping up with it after months of vague promises followed by the "new directions" and "new projects" and something about an MMO and a 2D game and ...

I just gave up. Nothing good can come from such an unfocused team. Getting the "it's done!" email just made me feel sad, because I don't like spending what little money I have on a dev team that's so eager to jump on another project when the initial (paid for) project goes unloved and unfinished.

I looked into this a year or so ago, but didn't order.  Saw it on Steam and considered picking it up... until I watched some videos.  Was under the impression from what they said initially that it was going to be something like X3:Online, with building bases, mining, etc... not fighting badly voice-acted space Russians inside asteroid mines and pretty much nothing else.

As it is right now, the game they released seems almost like a singleplayer marketing demo for the MMO they initially promised and are now releasing later as a separate product.  I feel like all you guys who pre-ordered got hit with a bait-and-switch =/

Yes, it was a bait & switch and I do not recommend the game at all. It was supposed to be a sandbox but instead gave us a rail shooter. So disappointed.

I bought this ages ago since I played Descent when I was a kid, and it plays similar.
Also, really liked the ships' movement and the terrain damage.

But seriously, it's been more than a year since I touched this, when it was a featureless alpha, and now all I see are scripted missions (and I don't have the patience to get through that second mission with their overpowered ninja turrets).

I thought by this time they would have better and cooler building and mining features, but now I'm certain this project is really a failure.

If they do release a MMO or something, I really want that free access that they had in the ooold pre-order thing.

'Over-Hyped' and 'fail to deliver' describes this.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.
