Been getting into this again for I don't know why reasons.

Decided to play Overdose mode this time. The 20x skill gain rate feels a lot better for solo play compared to the normal mode rate, though platinum is still the gating factor so things are still a grind. You don't get any kind of score in this mode but who cares about that if the regular game is too much of a slog to ever complete.

Does anyone know if there is some kind of fix for the dimensions? In all the available resolutions, the top most row, and the right most column are partially "hidden"/off screen. Like, the game view is 15 tall by 21 wide, but window itself is something like 14.1x20.5. That's for the 1024x768 resolution. The others resolutions vary slightly and or decrease rows/columns but still obscure the topmost row and rightmost column. Windowed/full screen modes don't change anything.

I vaguely think this was discussed many years ago in this thread but wasn't able to find a reference to it.

Also, does anyone know if item names are written in the .exe or is there a file somewhere? I'd kind of like to change most or all of them to give them "tags" to make them stand out a bit better in the inventory. Like tagging foods as FD-V, FD-F for vegetables and fruits, or misc items as TOOL if they actually have a use, FURN for just furniture, etc. (I kind of doubt this is possible and would involve a lot of busy work even if it was.)

I think that there is a limit to the number of squares the game can display, at least that's what some guy in the thread said.

So i got back in elona+ and, even if I suck less than 2 years ago, I don't really know what a good companion would be. I mean, at level 18 I can kill the guards while the little girl just gets one-hit by them, maybe I need to give her better equipment?

Yes.
Let her pick up money, then she can train potentials too

Shiny Rocks, I believe its coded somewhere that pets get more mileage out of selling shiny rocks then you.  (But then, that is just something I heard from way back when I started playing Elona, years ago.)

best way to get money to train your pets is to have them fight in the arena and then they get paid.

If his pets have trouble surviving stuff out in the wild, they're probably not going to hit a string of 100 wins yet for the payout yet. You could work on getting a bell, give it a good laser or machine gun and ammo/cell and maybe could do it without necessarily training? But maybe not.

Save your ores of rubinus, diamond, and emerald - with enough alchemy and jewelcraft you can use a pot for fusion to combine 5 of each in a new type (the shiny stones mentioned above) which sells for more than the components. You can also give them the ores directly (also crystals) and they can sell those too, just for less combined than the jewels are worth. But you need a moderate skill for these - I think diamond, the last, needs 35 alch and 40 jewel? Something like that.

Giving them pickpocketing through gene engineer, they will steal gold from enemies they kill. This actually seems to amount to a lot because my pets are frequently training in town even though they aren't selling anything. I think they actually gain gold outright rather than steal it, because they get a lot despite killing things that don't carry much gold or any gold at all, having checked the enemies with pickpocket.

I don't know, I haven't really even focused on them all that much but my little girl and goose are about level 40 and are hitting for 800 or so. But, again, I am playing on overdose mode so their skillups are ludicrously fast.

Argh, the game's updating too quickly for me to keep up. I always feel like I have to start a new character just as my current one is getting into the groove of things.

So I did manage to catch a gold bell. Any tips on how to equip it? Also, what monsters give pickpocket, I couldn't find any on the wiki.

Ok, I've worked around with the tactics stuff more. The only crash is if you try to preserve target when the condition is an self.

What I've found useful is if you have a caster, to set first (target distance > 6 move forward), second (self mp > 10% (spell)), third (self mp <= 10% attack range). This also shows the downside to it, I don't know how to increase the amount of slots open, I'll try out teaching abilities and see how that goes.

Thief gives pickpocket, you can buy one from the slave trader in derphy. I may be wrong about that. You will want some type of ranged weapon on it, but not a grenade. Later if you get ahold of some rubius equipment, give that to the bell. They normally start with 1 life(average is 100) so their hp is very low, each rubius equipment adds 3 life, which the first piece will quadruple its hp.

The ether bow, bow of vinderre if you abused the nukes, or any shuriken.

bleed stacks, and more bleed means even faster kill.

avoid grenades. your bell will shred YOU

and yes, genemod the thing and let it equip rubynus armor on slots unlocked with it.

remember not to load the poor guy with too much body parts.

Hm...pocket healer. This is a bit painful to set up initially. Get a nurse with riding skill and a ranged weapon. Initially it will slow you down a lot having it ride you, but the long term benefit is almost silly since it will either continuously shoot nearby enemies or heal you.

Robbers have it, they can be purchased from character level 1 from the Slave Master in Derphy. I'm sure more "thief"-type enemies do as well.

I've never used gene engineering before. I always just grab humanoid companions and the process of gene manipulation sounds like it is tedious with a large chance to screw things up.

But now I'm thinking that it could lessen the grinding I've been doing for my companions. What are some of the first things you guys engineer?
