He is beatable though in melee. My little girl can do it with minimal help from me, basically tossing hero and speed potions on her throughout the fight.

http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=83097.msg4264029#msg4264029

This post has her stats, and she was a bit weaker than that when I had her kill him. Since that pic was taken around the time I was getting ready to take on Zeome. And the king was already perma-dead due the story progression. Should give you a rough idea of where you'd have to be statwise to do it I suppose.

Yeah, my little girl isn't half that awesome.  I have a Silver-Eyed Witch and a Silver Bell I've put some training into, however, who are my main meat shield and DPS. (I mostly buff and heal... I have Magic and then basically nothing else breaking above average.  My best skill is gardening, which I power-pumped through Harvest Times to start stockpiling herbs to feed my minions and myself.  The rods are also juicy, and either good for direct use or absorbing to get more spellbook power.)

I guess that's the beauty of Elona, though - a million ways to approach the game.

My minions, while very good on their own in dungeon clearing, were nowhere near the awesome of Patchy's little girl when i was at the point of being able to take on Zeome.

I understood that quickly when i noticed that when Zeome was near death and started to spam his auto healing, that healing was simply higher that all the damage my high level magic dart and all my pets attack could do.

So i went back in the world and hired "God Spear Vurot" when she visited my house again, she was one of the adventurer that was in the top10 (she was the only friendly enough one i had that accepted the hiring), it took a lot of my accumulated fortune to get her.

Then back to Zeome, she made the difference, and was actually the one dealing the final hit that destroyed the boss

Ugh, you guys will make me start playing this game again, then where will my free time be?

Anyway, I mostly just focused upon upgrading my bell's damage potential, myself.  (Well, and the life rating.  Need more cheese.)  Those things are arrow gattling guns, given a chance.  A weakness curse is usually all it takes to watch the enemy HP evaporate.  (And I got a great artifact bow by murdering that jerk elf for the Vinderre Bow a lot in Party Time events.) After you get Marksman on a bell and some training. (Idling near sewer mass monsters blocked in with create wall spells, FTW)

Hehe, I know the feeling. I tend to play in spurts, a few months off and then a week or 2 of lots of playing. I pretty much haven't played in some time now though. Perhaps its time for another burst of elona for me. The last thing I did if I recall, was killing Zeome and then poking around south tyris looking for the guy to sell my ap too. Also tracked down a handful of treasure maps and raided a few random dungeons, but thats hardly news worthy.

Edit: Also the little girl is the only pet I use. Got a few others including the goose for yacatek, but rarely bring them out if ever. I find it annoying to have a large army of pets running around. Also easier to outfit one pet with uber gear vs trying to spread the gear around a small army of pets. She makes a really nice bodyguard overall, I just sat back and healed/buff her while she killed Zeome.

Well, I have a couple good pets, and then some weak ones I usually keep around for putting on the ranch to breed or do other things with.

I actually have a Chaos Cloud I got a while ago that's kind of nice, for example, because it just spams the chaos sphere spell a lot, which inflicts multiple status ailments to an area with no damage to allies because of control magic, so it's great crowd control.

... and I don't have to worry about equipment, because it's a cloud, and I haven't gene engineered it into being able to wear any, yet... It kinda dies first.

I have a chaos cloud too, but I jus have it on a ranch. Nice to have that extra chaos resistance you get from eating their eggs and corpses.

I didn't know eggs could do that. .O.

My ranches seem way more productive, now.

Yeah, that's exactly why I nabbed a chaos cloud in the first place.  I just don't have room on my ranches right now, waiting for the T-Rex and asura to breed and all.

Quote from: 1.30 Changelog
- A new map in Lost Irva.
- A new NPC.
- Trolls are now considered giants.
- More crafting materials
- Disguises no longer work on Certain Unique NPCs. Disguise kits appear more often.
- A certain NPC can now crush walls.
- Werewolves now sneak into cities, they can transform depending on the time.
- Special Abilities used by gods now require recharging.
- Increased the number of points needed for Museum rank by 1.4, but museum salary is 3x higher.

Quote from: Changelog 1.31
Another main quest extension.
Werewolves have a 50% chance of dropping platinum coins after being killed. Won't drop anything if killed before transforming.
As long as a werewolf is in the city, there's a 1 in 518 chance that a random NPC is executed on accusations of being a werewolf.
Executed people don't drop anything (No idea if artifacts are affected).
Executions don't start happening until a year passes in-game.
Command flags can be used to tell pets to use special ammo if available.
When a pet has more than 50 firearm skill, they'll have a small chance to randomly fire special ammo without using ammo (Excluding time-stop).
Your max speed when riding is 3x your current speed. This also includes pets who can use specials or items that boost speed.
New items: Whip (Rod Skill, has a range of 4), Ballista (Crossbow, high penetration %), Kusarigama(Scythe skill, does not have decapitation), Socks (Blunt weapon skill)

Quote from: Changelog 1.32
When uploading to 1.32 NPCs will be reconfigured which means all random quests will be cancelled and any active escortees will die.
Kusarigama and Whips were buffed.
Pet Arena Teams can apparently be registered like moongates.
Magic nerf. They're no longer auto-hit and their accuracy/power decreases by range.
Leold now has more skills to teach to PCs.

NOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo

But yeah, there's that and some new stuff in Lost Irva that we'll probably never see and will probably never be translated.
Looks like pet team registration is in 1.30 too, just press... one of the F-keys.

Let me clarify about the magic nerf.

For darts: Power/Accuracy is reduced by 10% for each tile after 5 tiles.
No details are mentioned about how skill/spell levels affect this. I assume it's a flat reduction.

For Balls/Bolts: Power is 100/(75 + Distance X 25). So at melee range, 100% , 2 tiles away, 80%, 3 tiles away 66%, 4 tiles away 57%, 5 tiles away 50%, and so on.
Nothing is mentioned about their accuracy so I assume they remain autohit.

By the way, Pet Arena Teams have a small anti-cheat measure so they're probably a bit safer than moongates. Probably.

Well, I just got a fire dragon child as an ally, and only after capturing it, realized that it's fire may end up hurting me. It does have control magic, but I don't know how that works.

Also wondering what it's capable of and what armor it can wear. I'm assuming just a cape and throwing item.

That sounds like a huge nerf about magic.
Some monsters are strong enough against what high level spell i am casting at them so if it now deals ridiculous low damage in range, i really don't like the sound of that (as getting in melee at the point of the game my character is into is simple suicide)
Looks like i'll stay on my current 1.30 then.

A fire dragon pup is a great pet to have when starting out as it's one of the few pets that actually grow like a pet should. It doesn't lag behind you or leave you in the dust, plus it's fairly tough and has great stats for its level.

But...

It's a fairly mediocre pet otherwise due to its melee AI and lack of weapon slots. They also have no special abilities or spells so fire isn't a problem. They have a neck slot, body slot, two ring slots, and a ranged weapon/ammo slot oddly enough.
