Harusame's Pixiv does have a fair bit of Elona fanart. I'd link but it's not entirely SFW.

INcidentally if you've managed to get seven league boots, "Before it's too late" quests are pretty much free money. Before that, don't bother taking any "before it's too late" quests to uhhh.... snow town. I forget the name. It takes forever to walk through snow.

Early in the game (level 5 and below) I walk around with a rope to hang myself if:

1. Etherwind starts and there is no nearby shelter (understandable).

2. Make it on time for escort quests involving Vernis, Port Kapul or Derphy (extreme).

That's quite extreme... besides, you won't stay < level 6 forever.

Etherwind occurs regularly (month 3, 6, 9, 12, starts blowing randomly between 1st to 15th iirc and lasts for a few days), so just keep an eye on the calender in upper left corner and plan accordingly. :P

If you get caught with your pants down, read a non-cursed scroll of return.

Maybe your armor weighs a ton? Or perhaps you don't have weightlifting skill?

A temporary measure (aside from dropping everything) is to get a strong and fast pet to ride.
Well... I've my gear is Medium-class, apparently, so I don't think it's too bad.  IIRC, my body armor and my weapon are pretty heavy, but still.  I've got weightlifting, I believe - I started as a farmer, so I didn't have it normally, but I've since learned it and am trying to raise my skill at it.  Mostly naturally.  :x

I mean, the constant damage is good for my healing and Constitution training, I think, but still.

Incidentally, the whole "tail t'night" thing doesn't work unless I drop a bunch of stuff, to get my speed up ten points or so - the guy just doesn't stay drunk long enough.  That's a little annoying.

Spend some platinum coins to train skill potential... it is very effective at a low skill level. Also, get Gardening and do harvest quests. Even if you fail to meet the quota, it will give you pretty decent training on Strength.

Eventually you'll be able to carry a 30.0s food processor and a nice bed around like they are nothing. :P

How does the dojo in Elona+ work?

I think it's supposed to train pets over time. You give her a pet and it stays there to train (?). I'm just guessing, but I DID manage to get a pet to stay there from pressing some combinations of choices.

Those only exist in Elona+. There's a ton more, like the 3 Tonfas and the specialized god-within-god artifact weapons.

I don't know if pets left in the Dojo get trained or not, but pets left there do not count towards your pet limit, so there's that.

Does anyone know how to get pets away from the dojo?

I'm tempted, very much so.

Might wait until there's more translation.

It's going to be strange trying to do things without boots of Awesome and a vindale cloak. I think i'll dive the puppy cave for loot and then drink from every fountain ever.

The plank of Carneades is probably made with the Custom Item system.  I'm not sure which versions of Elona have the system, other than Omake.  The "plank of" seems to be a translation of the "本" suffix, used for quantities of long objects.  I can't seem to make a custom item that doesn't include "plank of" in the name, which supports the suffix hypothesis.  Carneades might be the default name modifier for equipment made of wood, which you can't normally get, or it might be a default name when none is entered, but either way, you get a reference to "The Plank of Carneades" thought experiment.

It's been a while since I've messed with custom items.  I gave up when I couldn't get rid of the "plank of" that always appeared as part of the name.  It kind of ruined my sense of immersion in the game.  Otherwise I would have finished a guide for it, and posted some sample items.

Edit:  Nuuuuu! You deleted the thing that I was replying to. x3
Thanks for the clearup, I thought it was odd how that one didn't have the signs around it.
On another note, though, I've managed to summon a Xerxes Electric Tank and some of his friendsin Vernis. I've managed to kill the slime and demon that it spawned with, but the tank gets nearly four moves to my one and has (from what I can tell) loads of health. This thing usually kills me in a few turns and getting any NPC's to kill it is out of the question (due to the deaths of Loyter, Shena, the bartender, a bard, a few citizens, adventurers, and lots of miners). How the hell do I kill this thing?

You summon the slime to kill the mice, you summon the demon to kill the slime, you summon the tank to kill the slime. And now the tank is murdering people.

You need to "summon" a nuke. :P
