Goals should be:

Start game.
Get gold.
Hire Adventurer.
Romance Adventurer.
Ask Adventurer to join.
Marry Adventurer.
Go to Lesimas, or Gene Machine the Adventurer on another pet.

Okay, I went over and mashed some words together. Here's the link. We need a race, first!

Now you've made my night worse. I will have to increase my sanity by playing Amnesia instead. That way, I'll be very scared to the point of not being able to think clearly.

 :'( :'( :'( :'(
Look on the bright side, she's at least 17. My in-game character is only 16 and he's... uhhh... had a lot of *Tail* with random shopkeepers (female only, though). ;D

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.
Quote from: Ze Spy
Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

My "pets" are usually 15 at most :V

Good thing I never bother with marriage, never mind even getting that far.

You're thinking Elona works like Crawl; it doesn't. Experience is experience and only contributes to your level (which contributes very little to your character overall). Experience has nothing at all to do with skills; skills increase as you use them regardless of experience. Level is largely considered detrimental if anything.

Skills (and attributes as well) are subject to "potential" which is basically the standard practise of making skills take longer to level up as they get better turned into a proper game mechanic. The more you train a skill or attribute, the lower the skill potential gets; the lower the potential is, the slower the skill trains. If I remember correctly, for maximum efficiency you should be increasing skill potential to 100% and no higher (the effect of training potential slopes off above 100% or something).

Hmm, I had assumed that the experience pool feeds into your skills at the rate of your skill's potential, subject to whatever benchmarks it takes to reach the next skill level. So for instance, if you need 10,000 experience in weight lifting to go from 9->10, but had only a potential of 11%, then you'd need to 'spend' something like 19900 experience. To be sure I hadn't really thought it all the way through, since this doesn't explain how quickly the experience goes into the skill, only the amount needed. I think my confusion comes from seeing the experience pool decrease whenever you practice a skill, although it is hard to work out the direct correlation.

But since it doesn't work that way, what is the purpose of traveling experience? Just quickens your levels? Ditto with the Traveling skill, which actually makes traveling a Bad Thing unless you're expressly dependent on character levels (such as a mutant)?

Could someone explain the whole "levels are a bad thing in Elona" thing to me? I've played over 100 hours on my character, went through the entire storyline, did a ton of void exploring, and killed the bosses in the Forts of Chaos without ever getting cockblocked by high levels or high fame like people told me I would. Seems like the only difference was that there was better loot from Rogue Bosses, and fights were no longer a pushover.
The game was hard as heck, yeah, but not "literally impossible" like a bunch of people say it is.

I'm playing the Xmas version and went through as a Juere Claymore. I've heard 1.17+ is completely rebalanced; am I just playing the easystreet build, or using an iwinbutton race/class or something?

EDIT: Someone just explained to me how grinding delivery/escort missions inflates your levels and fame while leaving your combat skills useless. My levels and fame came almost solely from dungeon crawling, which explains why I didn't have that issue. Cheers!

Only if you continue to use the bear as your mount, and become part of the bear cavalry, fire arms division. Then later on marry the bear.

It's not like you can't fix the equip slots thing eventually. Gene engineering is your friend if you want to fix pets that have low equip slots.
