Ouch, that sucks. >.< I'm super paranoid and ID everything before I use it, for that reason.
The RNG loved being put on display last night. At one point I ran through a dungeon and got 2 cure corruption potions: 1 from the chest at the end, and one from a random drop. At another point I was in Noyel, and somebody in there has an attracts monsters item. So there were random monsters and loot piles all over the place. It wasn't without risk, I did almost die a couple different times. But I happened to pick up an unknown potion and IDed it as a Blessed potion of Descent.
I know people tend to like unblessed ones better, but at my low level I'd like to have some feats. So I glugged it down. Then I freed Ebon for the lulz and in the ensuing chaos I found a Miracle quality grenade. The bonuses weren't all that spectacular but it does do a bit of nerve damage. Much more fun than the coral shuriken I found before.
Anyways, enough rambling. I looked through the source last night out of curiosity, and found to my dismay that Learning actually has no effect on skill gain rates. Maybe it would be overpowered, but the wiki insisted there was an effect.
I'm thinking of doing a "Balance Patch" at some point. As is, it looks like Learning only affects bonus points on level up and MP (1 MP per 3 points of Learning).
