To be fair, the modders mostly implemented the features originally planned by the developer. Anyone know any major changes that were solely the modders?
the "hydration" that was added at some point by modders for Elona+.
I disliked it so much that i ceased to follow and play Elona+ and went to the Elona Custom G fork (last i played it was version 1.86 several years ago, no idea if it still continue to update since that time) that had removed that crap.

Someone reminded me of Elona+ recently and discussing it made me want to play it again. Which branches/variants are people playing these days? I believe, like Robsoie above, it seems some people drew the degeneracy line at pissing on things and other branches may have seen more updates and players since.

Elona+ and Elona+CGX are the branches still being actively updated.
Omake Overhaul reportedly did it's final update just one week ago.

But with Elin EA less than 2 weeks away, I imagine most fans are looking forward to that right now.

Development up until now has been funded through Kickstarter, and had several phases where various donation tiers got access to early builds.

But Early Access is when it actually becomes available on Steam for anyone who wants to buy it. Development will continue, but EA is expected to be at a point where all core mechanics are implemented and mostly balanced.

Coming November 1st.

It's the non-exclusive secondary early access public beta test blah blah I wish it was still 1999.

It actually had a working demo, so people paying to play in the game state between the demo and Early Access makes sense to me.

It is hardly fresh: Kickstarter was founded on that paradigm.  At least it ain't the Patron nonsense where the player are actively paying the developer NOT to complete the game...

Whoops.  :P

Been having a blast on ElonaPiss ElonaPlus CGX latest version - I don't remember seeing a mod of a mod added to a game, where it gives you a menu to disable or enable features from the main mod.
The game went completely over my head when I first touched it well over a decade ago (which I discovered through here), and I got roflstomped out of it for not understanding Potential and how dying repeatedly ruins your character. Also, how important food is.
It feels like a weird sort of time travel playing it.

I'm looking forward to checking out Elin next week, although I have a feeling it could be clunky or have tiresome inventory management.
Elona's inventory management aged like fine milk and definitely wasn't good even for the copious amount of loot the original game had, so I hope they look into this properly for the second take.
I'm mostly interested because there's a clear focus on town building and management this time around - features that were clearly envisioned for Elona but never implemented for whatever reason - so it would be fun to have a hardcore RPG/adventuring game with a strong take on "colony building".
If it adds any sort of automation, which it seems to potentially do since I read you can do things like defining stockpiles so workers can take stuff from there, make things, and drop in other places, it could be dang nice.

Overall though, last time I heard about Elona was 6 years ago due to the Sseth video on it and nothing after that - and then I just discovered Elin since I went looking for Elona last week.
Interested to see the effect of its release in the age of incredible AAAA games.

EDIT: Found my first post regarding the game from June 2009. That explains how turbo-nostalgic it is to play it.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2135150/Elin/

just randomly saw this in the "popular upcoming" tab of steam...

seems it comes out already in around 18h.

i think i first noticed elona back on kongregate (? some flash web game site) where there was like a elona tower defence like minigame...
hah found it: https://www.kongregate.com/games/noanoa/elona-shooter

and after i saw it has a big roguelike called elona... and then had lots of fun playing that back years ago...

so fun to see elin basically done and avaiable on steam now :D

Just notifying here that the game is dang fun, I played it pretty hard for the first few after the Early Access release on Steam.

It has big focus on the survival-craft and town building and management and I like it a lot.
However, for those more dungeon-crawling and roguelike inclined, I'm not sure how much you can side step this.
I do think it's a lot less "work" (and prep work) than Elona though, despite the slight amount and complexity of crafting.
And the QoL and UI customization, man... it's similar to a game called Necesse (and a little bit like Rimworld, in a way) where you basically set up chests and set them as public (available to NPCs), configure their filters, and you can dump the whole of your inventory in to the right places in one single click - along with NPCs dropping stuff there too.

It has the kind of things Elona desperately needed, but I was really surprised with the amount of love and care the game has already. "Early Access" is kind of a funny title given the amount of content and stuff already in, and I can't wait to see more from it.

Can confirm, Elin is pretty good so far.

Its a bit strugglebus though keeping up with taxes for awhile (the tax man wants his due), though there are mods already to remove that, or I suppose ways to maximize revenue so it doesn't matter anyway (and once you get income from guilds and passive income you are taken care of anyway).

The town building thing is somewhat open, you don't really select what an area is for other than building things out within that area as you please and recruiting the proper townsfolk that you want. Its somewhat tied to the story to build the town up a little bit, which leads to progression, but you don't have to do very much there, and I think you can even forward taxes to your bank eventually so you don't have to keep revisiting your home.  Its definitely a major part of the game, especially with making high stat food yourself and training allies, so ignore it to your detriment... but you could technically just do city traveling and dungeon crawling.

It doesn't have the trading system (yet?) that Elona had though, but it does have a merchants guild you can join so I can only assume there are going to be things there.
