Is there a way to make profit from loot? So far things I find are only worth 1gp and identifying them costs way more than what I can then sell them for. Also, got any good starter tips for a melee character? I keep getting wrecked by the monsters' super move.
Sorry for all the noob questions.
Edit: "you can absolutely beat her with your eyes closed" *miss* get shot twice, die.
Paying the town wizard to identify an item will reveal all properties of that specific instance, and also allow you to recognize all items of the same base item.
e.g. ID'ing a gold potion, the result is a blessed potion of hero.
All future potion of hero will be shown to you as potions of hero, but you won't know the blessed/cursed (BUC) status of them.
Note that two different base items can share the same appearance. e.g. both potion of hero and potion of restore spirit can be gold potion. You ID to learn the base item, not the appearance.
Body parts, once the base item is known, will sell for a lot more than 1 gp.
Save up some platinum coins and learn a skill called Sense Quality; it will allow you to slowly and passively identify items you are carrying. Using this skill (which is automatic) also trains your stats. Keep one or two light unidentified item with you at all times!
Edit:If you haven't done so already, I also recommend going to Palmia and do all those Party! quests. You are NOT there to perform; you are there to kill beggars!
Beggars carry with them some money (from a few to close to 100), and also a small chance of an artifact:
A dirty pendant.
It is always the first artifact I go for, because without it, saving up too much money is risky, and kitty banks can be very hard to find.
