1# Run around puppy cave getting books, rods & ores
2# Check quest board for birthday and hand in any item you have
3# Check the delivery quests and pick the ones that has the most to the same town or the nearest
Keep doing this for platinum and money till you puke.

Any recommended places to go to for a character about to reach level 6?  For the most part I've been barely scraping by with money, so I was hoping to get some for first taxes at least.

Spend all your money on IDing unknown Scrolls, Rods, Books, Potions, and Ores. When I say unknown, I mean stuff that's coming up with names like "Blurry Scroll" and "Mossy Book", or Ores that sell for only 2gp. After you've ID'd one of those once, every subsequent item of that type will come show up with the right name and can be sold for full price.
Once you've invested in IDing most of the common Scrolls, Rods, Books, Potions, and Ores, your dungeon runs will become immensely profitable.

Go to the Truce Grounds and find the altar of Yacatect of Wealth and start worshipping her. Her passive ability causes monsters to drop body parts at a MASSIVELY higher rate. After you ID a single skin, heart, eye, blood or bone, all other body parts of the same type from any monster will be able to be sold at full price (100-200 a pop for body parts coming from early monsters).
Secondly, learn the Anatomy skill to up the body part drops from monsters even further.

Yacatect + a decent Anatomy skill results in tens of thousands of gold in body parts from a single dungeon run. Pair that with Scroll/Rod/Book/Potion/Ore drops and you're raking in gold from dungeon runs.

Finally, learn the Sense Quality skill and don't spend your hard earned gold on IDing equipment.

Note: Yactat is an Elona+ god, so if you're playing unmodded, it won't be in the altar, or anywhere. Elona+ is a good mod once you get the hang of the base game mechanics though.

I know 1.22 is compatible, however you'll have to check the jp elonaplus wiki for ELM. Anyway, you shouldn't lose your OP bread slicer.

This might be old news but I've been playing around with soft hacking save data, and would like to ask if anyone else has experience with this or knows where I can find others who do.

So far I've been able to transfer; items, materials, spellbook, change classes, change races, restart lvl + turn + day without stat or skill losses, change apearances, reset the static dungeons, and reset some other stuff.

I've yet to find out how to transfer traits spells materials skills without replacing them, but I'm progressing well for plain file swapping.

You haven't heard of Elosnack? It's not being updated anymore, but neither is vanilla Elona so...

. . . I wonder if anyone still plays this or Elona+. . .

Well, anyways. Been trying to breed Military Putits until I have an evolution heart to start breeding GENERAL PUTITS! *putit* Until I get to that point in Elona+ I also spend some free time on a Pure Wizard Mode save trying to get the astral pen to work on Lomias and Larnneire. Except they won't accept any relationship-raising items, throwing a love potion at them or the floor provokes them, and there is no normal talk option to make use of my massive charisma. I know their relation value looks like it's a blank value, but can it actually be raised, or does that mean the pen won't work at all?

What message are you getting when the pen fails?
AFAIK, you need the following:
1. Your level is higher than the NPC's. (Lomiase and Larnneire are ~25-ish I think)
3. The NPC(s) are at <Soul Mate> or higher.
4. You have enough AP (Don't remember exactly how much)

Instead of throwing love potions, mix it with a piece of food and give it to them (If you can't, drop it near them and hope they're hungry). Throwing potions at them does provoke them, but their affection still does go up; whether this is a net gain or not is unknown.

Ah, thanks for the reply.

I had read the article for the astral pen on the wiki Twice and hadn't notice the ap thing. I was blindly trying to find something they would accept (drugged meat didn't work) until I accidently spawned a gift. I very cautiously gave it to one of them in my home. . .

SUCCESS

Of course, I spammed gifts. Then I tried the astral pen again-except wait, my AP is a whole whopping ZERO!

To get AP I need to unlock South Tyris. To unlock ST I need to beat the main story. I figured I could go straight to Mr. "Shadow of Palmia" and skip Vernis entirely so they would stay in my house.

No. Apparently he ignores you until you enter Vernis. Yeah, I have the mission to go to Lesimas. I talk to him, but he ignores me. The pair leave if you enter Vernis.

Yes, I know the two appear in The void, but such a meeting place is not exactly the best place to draw a images of old friends who are now 50+ levels higher than they were before and are now hostile.

TL:DR Does anyone know how to start the main quest in Elona without entering Vernis? Or will I just have to power my way through the void and hope I don't accidentally kill them?

I don't think you need to unlock South Tyris (I.E. finish the main quest) in order to *gain* AP; that unlocks the ability to spend it.

Strange. I thought you had to since my AP hadn't risen after trying MewMewMew in the Void just to make sure. . . tried a few more times with no success and then went out into the world.

A putit rank ambush involving a few low level enemies. Killed em all. Still nothing. Then I kill a yeek right before leaving the map and check again on the remote hope that it worked.

Killing the Yeek fixed my AP counter to display correctly. I really would have bumbled about blindly without you. Thank you so much.

I'm pretty sure you get some AP whenever one of those yellow 'heart-beep' things flashes above the player. I've seen blue as well and I'm pretty sure this means more AP than usual, though I'm not entirely sure.
