I generally just trade to get money early game.

I always start with getting the wicked secret treasure too. Then I grind "li'l tail" until I have like 2-3m GP. I spend it all on a castle, ranches, potions of evolution and potions of potential. It's too difficult to get money at the start of the game if I don't do this.

Bull, I have saved up over 1 mil by level 14 just by dungeon looting and Noyel quests with seven league boots. Much more looting.

Nice work, but you'll have trouble ridding yourself of that karma if you're below level 6. No bonus for dying to guards. You might know that already, though. I'd also highly recommend joining the thieves guild, since your karma is already rock bottom.

I don't know what you guys do but here is how I get GPs:

1. Stockpile a crapload of alcohol and some blessed healing potions
2. When you are ready to grind, take all the alcohol and travel from city to city as you look for people with enough money to pay you.
2.a. Traders you invested in has more money. I have a trader in Vernis that has around 100k. You need like 15-25 alcohol to get all the money from her.
2.b. Take escort and delivery missions as you travel from city to city in search for... customers.
3. When you want to call it a day, drink blessed healing potions to get rid of sickness.

Yeah, I always complete the thieves guild entrance quest and the nuke quest together. I stockpile wallets and give them to guards when I'm ready to get a positive karma again.

That takes a long time, trying to make money by just questing and looting. I can make 1m in exactly 30 minutes (minus the alcohol stockpiling time, which takes like 10 minutes)

Putits are good too. They raise the potential for charisma. They only have the 2/3 breeding power of lame horses though. I have 3 ranches with lame horses and 2 with putits.

Zombies drop potion of descent, so I was thinking. Maybe it's possible to get them a ranch and farm them for potions.

I was actually after the secret treasure so I could whore without turning into a criminal...but then I got the boots of broken and I could get money that way.  So yay?  Now I need to just boost my karma up enough to do delivery quests...now how to go about that without ruining my fame forever.

You CAN still do escort quests from Derphy.

Maybe Palmia if you can escape fast enough, its boards are nearest the entrance.

Since you already got a low karma, why not nuke Palmia and join the thieves guild why you are at it? Escorting and delivering doesn't make a huge pile of money. You get like 5k for most escort and delivery quests if I remember right. If you decide to just whore around, 5k equals 5 seconds of your time.

You can increase your karma if you return wallets to guards. Should have stockpiled some.

The wallets got severely nerfed sometime in the betas. When I try it, they generally just get suspicious and make my karma plummet even further.

I had to work around my own poor planning this morning. My tax evasion karma hit happened at the start of the third month, so the Etherwind was looiming. I didn't want to try to beeline for the Vernis shelter if the guards wanted me dead, so instead I spent four solid days in the Puppy Cave. I came out with lots of loot, and three corpse events happened -- an easy 15 karma. It was just enough to make me not a criminal again. Of course, I'm about to nuke the hell out of Palmia, but at least I was able to sell my loot.

Anyway, any reliable ways to get monster balls aside from that one lot you get from the scientist?

I want to catch a putit and a quickling to complete my collection of stat-boosting foodbeasts.
