Is it possible to farm potions of descend by getting a bunch of zombies and having them working at the ranch?

This is one of the main reasons to get a ranch in my mind. The gold investment (yes, it's gold, I know, but still) required to get a load of descent potions is pretty hefty, and they're still fairly rare even once you pass the vendor level threshold.

That plus being able to farm other corpses for infinite stat training, and creating an army of your gene-engineered super-mutants... ranches are pretty fantastic.
I had 4 ranches in my previous character for stat training purposes. I was like "Hmmmm... What should I eat today? Maybe a putit for charisma or a horse for constitution."

If anybody wants to try this out, get a lame horse from Yown and have it work at your ranch. Lame ones have the highest breeding power.

Until he gets slaughtered because he can't wield equipment. Then there would be a morale loss.

Really I thought the bear could use equipment. I know a horse can at least...

All creatures have SOME equipment slots, even putits.

Bears CAN use weapons, just give one a weapon and he/she will equip it. Bears, however, lack back and body slots (among others), which severely limits their defensive capability.

I got a problem, my fairy learned when sleeping a new spell "Dark Eye" that surprisingly had more than 50% of chance to cast (all my other spells having less than 10 and that casting skill does not seem to increase despite all the platinium i invested in training its "potential") .

So i had some fun with it, and it's rather powerfull when it works (50% of the time).
At some point i had a message that told me Dark Eye increased , i looked and noticed that instead of costing 10 mp it was only 8 , i was happy until i noticed that from 50% of chances, i was now only at roughly 20% ?
What ?

And after a few more try, surprise : Dark Eye disappeared from my spell list, i can't cast it anymore, and when it disappeared it took with it Nether Arrow that i never cast until now, both spells are simply no more in my spell list, only have a few unusable (0 and 5% of chances) healing spells left on it.

What happened ? why did those spells disappeared and why Dark Eye "improving" lowered by half its casting success chances ?

Is that a bug (running the latest beta 22 + community fixes ) as i don't find any mention of this kind of thing in the spell page of the wiki ?

Spells disappear because of the spell stock feature. Check your spells screen. You'll see a cost(stock) column. That "(stock)" describes how many times you can cast it. Amnount of spell stock used is random but close to the MP cost.

For example you have Ice Bolt spell and it has 43 spell stock. It costs 10 MP to cast. That means you can only cast that 4 or 5 times.

The amount of Spell Stock gained by reading Spellbooks is a random amount based on your Memorization Skill and the amount of stock you currently have. The higher your memorization skill the more stock you gain. The higher your current spell stock the less stock you gain.

You can gain spell stock by reading spellbooks, sleeping, reading scrolls of wonder.

I don't know about the Nether Arrow spell though. Spells never disappear by itself.

Chance to cast a spell depends on your armor and your level in that spell. Don't wear heavy armor if you are a wizard. If you are riding or using two weapons at once it will reduce your chance to cast a spell as well.

I have a question too:
Bonuses from equipment materials are different in the beta version???  ???

Rubynus armor used to be the best armor and diamond weapon used to be the best weapon. Is there a new list?

I think I'll just switch back to 1.16.

If you have potions of descent to spare, you can feed them to high level pets. Lowering their level will increase their breeding power a bit.

Ah, thank you for the explanation, i was thinking this stock next to cost was to describe something else entirely, not the amount of time you could use a spell.

I guess i'll have to stockpile my spellbooks instead of selling them/solving birthday quests to avoid this problem, especially considering my fairy is useless at direct fights :D

About the chance of casting decreased by equipment, is there anything in there that can be responsible of the 50% decrease in casting chance i observed after the spell "leveled up" ?

Nether Arrow disappeared in the same time as Dark Eye from my list, it really puzzled me as i never used this spell (i was only spamming Dark Eye, well when the chance of casting it allowed).

Probably a bug then, unless those stock values can decrease even without casting due to some obscure gameplay mechanic ?

Even a full heavy armor set can't bring casting chance by %50. This is weird. Levelling a spell should increase the chance to cast not decrease it.

Maybe you cast Nether Arrow accidently and depleted the spell stock but that still doesn't explain the %50 reduction in casting chance.

Anyway, I suggest you to run around Puppy Cave for sometime and get every spellbook you can find. Magic Arrow is the friend of every low-level wizard.

And you're welcome :D

That's then very likely a bug (didn't found any reports about this one), i wonder if i should go back to 1.16 then as i read that 1.22 is supposedly having more bugs

Will do that, as even with my army of little sisters (can't imagine how even harder it would be if i didn't bought all of those slaves), my Fairy is definitively not good for surviving in dungeons (as unfortunately the companion AI does not attack enemies on their own, i need to deal the 1st hit apparently, with a chance to get then oneshot-ed, and i did lost my fairy multiple times due to this, losing then lot of money when coming back).

You can order your companions to attack something by targeting it with the "*" key.

I think it's a vastly amusing thought that elephants are so afraid of heights that when Dwarves invented the Z-axis, they couldn't bear to face dwarves in combat anymore.

Attention new players! Starting out as a Fairy Wizard is a bad idea. Wizards are very weak in the beginning. You should learn about the game before you do some magic :D

I suggest all new players to pick Juere or Yerles as a race and pick an easy class like warrior. You just have to bash monsters with your club.

Fairies aren't the only leaders in the game. I had a Juere with 60 charisma. Race and class doesn't matter much.

I'm thinking about going back to 1.16 too. Even the way equipment materials work is changed.

Wizards are really weak if you try to fight only using your spells. You'll generally want to use melee or ranged fighting to take care of weak stuff so your spellstocks don't drain as fast.

As early as possible you should attempt to get yourself something to use as a ranged weapon. I prefer a laser or machine gun, because you don't start with the gun or marksmen skills and won't gain as much xp when you use it. The cyberdome is a good place to shop for guns, or you can keep entering and leaving the puppy cave until you see a gun on the ground near the entrance (Note this is also a very good way to farm spellbooks early on).

Always read your books in the wilderness next to the edge of the map. If something nasty spawns to kill you, you're 1 step away from safety. Also read your books only when your mp is full, if they drain your mp and you're not at full it's like overcasting and it'll likely kill you.
