Tried this game last night, and holy Fudge it is confusing! Obviously I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing, but at one point as I was sheltering in a dungeon from an ether storm, I received a message that a panther had been killed by an atomic bomb in my house. ??? Wha.

If you have internet, it will show the deaths of other players in their own games.

I'm pretty sure that's another player, that killed his/herself with a nuke in 'My House'. 'My House' is just the name for the player's house. So, he nuked him/herself in his/her own home, not yours.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.
Quote from: Ze Spy
Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Really? Oh wow, now that is pretty cool. I was wondering who all the other morons with random-genned titles were. :P

Random-genned titles? Bah.

Game is incredibly confusing because of it's humorous nature but when you get used to it you won't stop playing it. I played it around 150 hours according to game but I had a lot of other characters too.

I recommend this giant list of tips to newbies. http://elona.wikia.com/wiki/Tips

Thanks for the tips galore, everyone. I've managed to stockpile a pretty large number of anonymous potions and scrolls in my house, and am now just waiting to save up enough gold to identify them in one go. Last night, for the first time, I discovered the miracle of enemies dropping enough gold to feed yourself!  :D

Now, to take a break and play Gearhead. 8)

Don't spend money to identify weapons and armor. They don't make good money. Real money comes from selling rods, scrolls and spellbooks. Especially spellbooks are valuable. Be on the lookout for scrolls too. Scroll of oracle spawn 1 out of 3 times in Puppy Cave and they make around 2000 gps.

Doing quests isn't really a good way to make money but they pay you in platinum coins and they are very valuable.

Good luck! I'll try Gearhead tomorrow (thanks again) :D

Performance quests can bring in a lot of money.

Party Time! quests take quite a bit of performer to do and actually make cash. Once in a blue moon with close to 30 I will get showered in 2000-3000 coins, the rest I either get 100-500 or take a rock to the face.

Can you bring nukes into parties? If you can, then that'd be a great source of stuff from all the unique NPCs. But then it'd kill you too so never mind.

If you have over 1,000 HP you'll survive; But by then you probably won't need a nuke to kill everyone.

If you move far enough away you can survive the explosion, but that requires an extremely large map as well as a stupid dwarf trick.

A high level contingency spell can practically guarantee your survival, lesser sources have a much lower chance of working.

There's also the karma penalty though.
