You can sometimes find disguise kits in general or goods stores, and scrolls in the magic shop.

Or you could actually manage o join the guild but that's too much work.

You can get one from puppy cave too. It's full of scrolls.

Joining the guild is difficult. You have to stop paying taxes for 4 months which means you will only stick around in Delphy. I was doing that quest and I also blew up Palmia with a nuke while doing that. That's the way how I got the secret treasure of the wicked. When you become a member you will have a quest like "Sell 10k stolen goods. Done? Sell 25k now!" They pay you monthly but it isn't that much.

Any advice for a newbie golem warrior? My funds are rapidly dwindling, and none of the quests I have attempted seemed even remotely plausible. On  a good day, I can make it through the first floor of the Puppy Cave and make ~30 gp from a particularly valuable piece of crap.  8)

Collect various junks - ores (but not ore pieces which are heavy), garbage, shit, stones, dead fish, straw, etc. Also keep wands (fire/ice bolt, magic missile, web, slow, healing hands, light cure, etc.). There will be "Birthday" and "I want it!" quests that want them. With "I want it!" you can trade from other citizens, and sometimes you can just buy them from shops - the quest reward usually pays you more than the cost. Just make sure you got the item ready before you accept the quest.

I'd suggest "Before it's too late" quests, but golem slowness makes those harder.

I find the quests where you bring people stuff from other towns to be pretty good, but if you fail them, you take a large karma hit.

You should focus your funds on identifying Wands, Scrolls, Potions and Books that don't have a name (i.e. Mossy Scroll, Bloody Spellbook, Green Potion, Ivy Wand, etc). When you identify one once, they will come up with their proper name every time you see one again and you can sell them for full price without IDing. So although that Wand of Speed was an Ivy Wand when you picked it up, after you ID it every Wand of Speed you see in a dungeon will be listed as a Wand of Speed and can be sold for full price. IDing a "raw ore of X" will allow you to sell later ones you find all full price too.

If you don't have the Sense Quality skill, save up your platinum coins from easy quests and learn it from a trainer. It will allow you ID equipment over time while it sits in your inventory, and after if gets to be a higher level you'll get immediate information about the material and general quality of an item when you see it on the ground (good for noting when you find an artifact).

Basically, the Puppy Cave becomes a goldmine for newbie characters after you obsolete the need for spending loads of gold IDing stuff in town.

Buying yourself a horse from Yowyn and learning the Riding skill will also help negate some of the speed problems that golems have. The horse can serve you pretty well for a long time too.

Riding skill requires time and platinum coins before it shines though... you can't use heavy weapons, at low levels your hit chance will be reduced, and you won't get the full speed out of your mount.

What doesn't take a lot of time and platinum to really shine? And it's another reason to start working on it early. If he is wanting to go the heavy weapons route, he can try to find/buy a full set of glass equips, otherwise he's likely going to have to work riding up sooner or later.

You're right of course. Just letting Ibid know that it will take a while to see results.

If you don't identify your stuff before selling them you won't make money. You need money to identify though.

Money makes money.

If you're really hard up on cash, find a relatively safe place (NOT YOUR HOME), and zap any wands you have.

It partially identifies the wand, allowing you to sell it for more.  And sometimes, you'll find out a wand is a wand of identify, with which you zap the spell books.

After identifying all your books, move on to the scrolls.  Scrolls don't sell for as much as books, due to their limited nature, but the scrolls of oracle sell for decent cash, and other scrolls sell for more than monster body parts.

Tried this game last night, and holy Fudge it is confusing! Obviously I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing, but at one point as I was sheltering in a dungeon from an ether storm, I received a message that a panther had been killed by an atomic bomb in my house. ??? Wha.
