What if places could be affected by a dwarf's mood?
« on: April 22, 2011, 08:58:55 pm »

Granted, this would tax the already taxing process of the calculation of pathing, but what if a dwarf's memory of the place affected their desire to go to a place? Like, for instance, if a dwarf really likes a statue; that dwarf would then path around that statue as much as possible and give them a happy thought. If a dwarf dies in some violent manner, any dwarf close to that dwarf would then avoid that place. Also if enough dwarfs dislike a place, it could get "corrupted" and turn into a mini evil biome and increase the chance of a ghost coming back as an evil ghost in that region. And of course an emergence of "holy land" or something similar. It would also potentially decrease the chances of tantrum spirals, as dwarfs would actively avoid places that they didn't like and actively stand in places they did.

Also if this is the wrong thread to post in, just give me a heads up.

Also the reason I posted in this thread is because I didn't think it could be implemented in adventure mode.

I *think* this is already implemented. To some degree.

If I accidentally wall a dwarf in through building walls
Code: [Select]
o=o
|@|
o=o
and leave him there for a while, if a then remove a wall so he can escape, he usually will leave to get a drink/eat and will go back, assuming he doesn't find some other work to do.

Ghosts usually come back to familiar places like dining rooms or hover around meeting halls.

This was discussed in a recent DFTalk, though I can't remember which one.

DFTalk 11, I believe.

Basically Toady's intention is to give dwarves a list of their favorite places, that they will frequent when they need some cheering up.

This means that instead of dwarves getting upset, they'll slack off and stare at statues.

Yay (sort of)

I like fortresses because they are still underground.
