The Tower of Bonfo
« on: April 22, 2011, 08:53:41 pm »

You have travelled long and far, seeking out the magical tower of the mysterious wizard Bonfo. But now, at long last, you are now within sight of the tower. The mystical edifice looms over the surrounding countryside from atop a large hillside that seems more a dilinquent mountain than a grassy knoll. The path leading up to it is long and treacherous, and you dare not make the trip on such a bleak and stormy night. Instead, you will rest here at an inn in a nearby village, gather your strength, and prepare for the journey ahead.

When you enter the inn, you are asked for your name and trade by the innkeep and of what brings you to the village on so dark and stormy of a night. What do you answer?

You inform the inkeep that you are the Black Mage Jonathus Viranson, a mighty summoner here to pay a visit to Bonofo. The man goes pale and takes you to the best seat in the house, and asks if you would like any food, all on the house for your wizardlyness, before you retire to your free room.

It occurs to you that you should consider getting supplies for the trip to the tower. Dinner too, perhaps. What do you have for dinner, and what do you do in town before you leave on your journey?

You consume a simple meal of whatever this inn has to offer, and then go and see if the local magic shop and apothecary have any wares worth purchasing.

You have an adequate bowl of barley stew. Once you are finished, you retire to bed. In the morning, you decide to accept a "gift" of 2 pounds of brimstone from the local hedgemage, perfect for your summonings. It is time to make your way up to the tower! The trip is not too strenous, and soon you are in front of the door of the tower. Do you wish to do anything special before you go in, or perhaps take a different entrance than the front door?

Summon whatever monster takes the least materials, send it through the door and have it come back after a few minutes and report what it found.

Using a pinch of brimstone, you summon a Scryball! It looks like a floating eyeball, but it is sufficently intelligent to report on what it sees by shaking up and down for a yes and back and forth for a no.

You send it in and, after a few minutes of looking around it returns. A few quick yes or no questions reveals that the room is empty, save for a spiral staircase going up and down. Do you want to ask it any (yes or no) questions before you go in?

Did you remember to check for traps?

It nods its head yes; it did check for traps and didn't find any.

The Scryball goes up stairs. You wait for it to return.

After a good while, it occurs to you that you never instructed it to actually come back. You'll have to go in after it.

Inside the tower is dark. You consider lighting a light, but decide against it. You do not wish to draw overly much attention to yourself right away. Instead, you head up the stairs and find that your scryball has been floating around what appears to be an astrological observatory. There is a telescope and several star charts lying about, along with numerous books of astrological lore. What next?
