...

Why do tanks even EXIST in this game if normal people are both cheaper and can use the same guns?

All considered, the late game ones are much, much better.

And have you ever thought how versatile the normal GI is? If Tanks in real life were so superior, why aren't they used in every engagement?

They become quite useful with end game weaponry, mostly because they can carry far more ammo than a soldier could. Eh, transfer Tylor to an administrative or piloting position then.

All considered, the tanks in this game are ridiculously tiny and remote controlled. Also note this line:
"Remember, your equipment is always made by the lowest bidder."

The best equipment that tanks have early game are rocket launchers, which could be substituted by the normal soldier, who can also enter UFOs while Tanks can't. Tanks also cause ridiculous collateral damage.
True, but Tanks don't lose TUs due to strength, Tanks can have more than 5 shots, Tanks are more accurate Early game, Tanks are more expendable, A rocket launcher being used INSIDE a UFO is suicide, and soldiers can still use the tank for cover if they crouch.

And now that I think of it: Tanks CAN in fact enter a decent number of UFO designs, and collateral damage means diddly squat and give the enemy fewer places to hide ( It doesn't matter as much for you guys because they'll blast any cover you have to smithereens anyways)

And Tanks have rule of cool

I concede that infantry has it's uses, as they are more manuverable, cheaper, and can switch weapons easier, as well as being able to fit in buildings. Tanks are more expensive, but a properly outfitted one could probably take on a huge number of Infantry without being overtaken. Granted, 'Properly outfitted' probably involves a hell of a lot of guns, but still.

And as Warhammer said, Collateral Damage is not always a bad thing. it's a lot easier to shoot someone if they can't hide behind a wall.

In this game it's generally a good thing. only bad if you're in a terror mission with civvies, but hey what's another civilian casualty?

And how is the whole town becoming a dead wasteland? And as Azzuro and me somewhat shown, tanks are quite squishy and useless.

And no, we don't have a named Interceptor pilot.

Do not believe so

Again, at this point EVERYTHING is Squishy. My tanks generally survive more that one shot however and we don't even have personal armor yet that -might- allow the soldiers to say the same thing.

Again: we aren't penalized for collateral damage in any way, and seeing how destructive the fights in Evangilon could be I doubt Gendo gives a damn either.

Would it be possible (as apparently tanks take up too much space at the moment) for Simon to get transferred to piloting one?

Heck, he could probably take his tank and change it into one.

That would confuse the heck out of the scientists.

Bah, why don't YOU people go try to beat an X-Com game?

I'm stuck with Terror From The Deep. Mein gott, everything is useless in the beginning.

How the hell is that? I pretty much one-shot everything at the start in that game.

TFTD is MUCH harder than EU.

Tanks in TFTD ARE pretty damned useless, but the ones in EU are much less squishy and much more badass
