Makes me wonder why Greg was screaming after being healed and is almost never phased by my fire attacks.

You might want to install XComUtil to fix the DOS version difficulty bug, that makes all games revert to beginner after the first mission. Only three aliens on a UFO and sectoids missing isn't likely to happen on Superhuman. You could also continue on the lowest difficulty level, the game is hard enough to inexperienced players as it is.
