Big (but not for you) translation quest (now a beer thread!)
« on: April 20, 2011, 07:35:39 pm »

Well, it's kind of silly, but if you're looking for some way to brush up on your Hungarian or Esperanto or Icelandic perhaps you'd like to help. Basically, I need "X, would you go to prom with me?" in as many languages as possible; I'll then write all the various translations in sidewalk chalk at 4 am on the campus sidewalks.

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

Did you get them from an online translator, it is very formal Australian. More often you would hear "Hey X, wanna go get hammed on a pack of four X*?"

* Translators note, this X is in fact an X, and not a field being used to substitute a name.

Oh, dhokarena, our own resident creepy stalker. ::)

I wonder if you've first considered a more conventional technique. Or have foreseen that at 8 a.m. somebody might discover your midnight art and draw dicks all around it.

I for one support dhokarena's right to confuse displays romance with those of obsession, and get turned down in the most dramatic way he can think of.

That's not what this is. This is, "If I ask her out in person, I will have !!ears!!, and I love languages and it's sort of original".

And it turns out that Rachel... I mean the unnamed femme fatale is a cheerful individual, and doesn't stare in front of her feet when she walks, and completely misses everything. Or she has her eyes on another boy, who ain't that smart, but everyone can ask this think on a forum. Or she comes to you and says "Hey, that was cool, but also creepy. Anyway, I'm a lesbian, so I don't dance with boys."

In an alternate universe, dhokarena boldly walks up to Rachel and asks if she'd go to the prom with him...

I can't see any kind of natural verbal communication happen after this kind of display of creepiness.

Finnish.

Or with a few dialects:

Lähreksää miun kans tanssaan?
Lähetkö tansseihin mun kaa?
Lähtisiks sie miun mukkaan tansseihin?

An unfaithful creepy stalker! That's certainly a turn of events. :P

Well, this gives a kind of dull edge to my joke attempts. I guess I should stop them now. But one of these days you've gotta tell us what turned out wrong with Rachel. It'll be the forum success story - how a creepy stalker stopped stalking... one girl... and started... another?

I'd probably also advise you to skip the dramatics and just ask her out in person. Talking to her first would probably also help with that...

This kind of thing might be kind of cute after you're already going out with her, though. Presuming that she's the type of person that wouldn't mind her name being chalk'ed everywhere for people to see. It's nice to be reminded that somebody cares a lot for you after you've been in a relationship for a while... not so nice to find out somebody you barely know apparently 'cares' enough about you to write your name everywhere.

But, good luck either way.
