Vladimir's journal

2nd of Granite

Our leader, a dwarf who calls himself "Choppy", has put me in charge of this mess. My first order of business, bury my father Svyatoslav The Brave's partially rotten corpse... I'm truly sickened by this Choppy's ineptitude and procrastination... I can't even recall how long it's been since my father died, and his body continues to rot outside!!! Damn these imbicils for leaving him to die! My father... the greatest warrior to ever live, DEAD! I will avenge him indeed... They think those stories I fed them were true, all I can do is bide my time.

I've commisioned the building of a golden sarcophagus, statues, and kladenets to decorate the tomb which will be located on top of the fortress on the battlefield... The Byzantines goblins shall fear us!

7th of Granite

I wandered through the empty, silent fortress one night... everyone was asleep... And what appeared to be my fathers ghost, clad in white armor... appeared. I must be insane.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

12th of Granite

Damned zombie camels are halting all outdoor production! I've decided to take matters into my own hands..... Ok the zombies are dead, no injuries to us, and I'm stationing a guard near the smelters.

10th of Slate

Migrants came today, we'll see if they survive the path to our fortress. I'm sending out a party to escort them.

15th of Slate

Holy Svarog Ral, our fortress population has more than doubled from the latest migration.

20th of Slate

We've begun expanding the meeting area and digging more communal bedchambers to accommodate the new comers. We've also started digging minor noble rooms.

Next post will be the end of Spring and all of summer, but will be more condensed. I think i'll be finished the year by tomorrow at most.

I'd like to be added to the list, if at all possible.

And, if there's a free miner or fisherdwarf, dwarf me as "Irony".

Vladimir's Journal

Late Spring

21th of Slate

My fathers tomb is progressing nicely, he will hopefully be buried by the end of the season... Maybe things will get better....
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

8th of Felsite

Our current method of smeltering is completely inefficient, I'm moving production underground. Hopefully this won't turn out to be a disaster.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

11th of Felsite

We're also going to start farming soon perhaps, we have little alcohol left and the dwarves are beginning to get a little too aggrovated for my liking.

16th of Felsite

Giant ant people have infested the caverns... Some herbalists were gathering seeds for our new farm project when they were attacked by the bastards. I'm debating whether I should send the militia out or not.... Shit! One of them is in the fortress! Dispatching the militia right now!

17th of Felsite

The ant people fall pretty quickly, I slew one on my own. I don't think anyone was hurt in the attack... Hopefully they leave us alone now.

23rd of Felsite

My birthday... Svyatoslav has finally been put to rest. May Perun Ral guide him in the afterlife.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

25th of Felsite

A dwarf named Edosurist has been acting quite strange lately... I'll see what happens.

22nd of Hemetite

Nothing of note has happened for the past month... I've nominated myself as the Sheriff Starosta of this settlement.

1st of Malachite

More migrants have arrived.... as if we need them. Also, I've just noticed we've been missing two heads lately, the miner Azoth Gor and some other Dwarf were sealed in our underground magma chamber for gods know how long. It's a good thing we havn't begun filling it yet... They have both escaped safely, albeit incredibly water and food deprived.

10th of Malachite

We are not producing any food... Dogs are being butchered as I write this.

12th of Malachite

That gemsetter, Edosurist or whatever, went insane today! He was just standing around in the dining hall for more than a month and went berserk all of the sudden. I was nearby and unfortunately had to put him down... A funeral will be held and he will be buried alongside my father. (ooc: I didn't know what he wanted, tried giving him all kinds of workshops, but nothing worked.)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
More to come a little later
I added Irony as a miner

Vladimir's Journal
Late Summer and autumn

2nd of Galena
I knew this "Choppy" guy was bad news the first time I saw him... He's started a godsdamned party in our dining hall, like we need production to be slowed even more. Half the fortress is starving for Armoks sake! Well, I was actually able to control that, but tis' beyond the point. I'm rambling now... On a side note, the poor dwarf that went insane, his body is stinking up the room where Choppy's party is taking place.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

22nd of Galena
Our miner, Azoth Gor (our only miner with a pick at the moment) has finally started digging out the rest of my new forging area after a month of pissing around doing nothing... These dolts would never get anything done if I weren't here to whip them into shape. Soon enough we'll be able to make more picks and equipment.

2nd of Limestone
This new guy, calls himself Irony, decided to take a break in what's soon to be our magma cistern. He just walked on in and stood around until I found him. Then he just casually says he's taking a break... Idiot... Until he get's the hell out of there, we can't start production.... I'm thinking we start an idiot of the month contest.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

7th of Limestone
I'm pleasantly surprised, Irony has grabbed up a pick and started digging!

10th of Limestone
I'm not quite sure what Choppy was thinking with these weird stockpile placements, our workers don't even know where to put wood... I will remedy this immediately.

28th of Limestone
What's with these fecking parties! Now Melkor has started one! I'm definitely not going... They don't even invite me, why?

7th of Sandstone
I really wish some work would get done around here.... Our top miner, Azoth, has started smoothing stone in some useless bedchamber. Oh, wait, that's my bedchamber... Well, in that case, job well done Azoth.

20th of Sandstone
We've started building some outer defense walls, there was nothing protecting us from goblin hordes before.... Come to think of it, I don't think we've seen any goblins for a year and a half.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

26th of Sandstone
The new forge is complete! After months of hard labor that could have probably been completed in a matter of weeks, we finally have a safe underground forge! Take that zombie camels!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

27th of Sandstone
In celebration of the grand opening of our forge, some random dwarf has started a party. I guess I'll let this one slide.

Vladimir's Journal
End of Autumn and Winter

24th of Timber
I never thought I'd see a caravan from the good old mountainhomes ever again, but one came today. We can get rid of the mounds of useless junk laying around! Most of it is gold too, those caverns are full of gold I'll tell ya.

3rd of Moonstone
It seems we have a dwarf go insane about every month, I've already had to lock one away in his workshop and now there's one moping about the hallways...

10th of Moonstone
We literally cleaned out the caravan, all they had left was a few cloth bins.

11th of Moonstone
The one melancholic dwarf has created a "perfect green zircon", which is good I guess.

20th of Moonstone
Patrols have spotted a couple of decaying buzzards scavenging near the Tomb. They will never desecrate the holy tomb! I will slaughter them! .... The cowards flew away.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wow, I spent a while on this.... I'll finish tomorrow.

So now all we've got to do is to put a couple of grannies into the LHC and smash them against each other at relativistic speeds. Lather, rinse, repeat until we got results.

I figured a miner would have the most potential for accidental irony. Not quite what I was expecting, though.

Vladimir's Journal

27th of Moonstone
I've ordered the engraving of some of our hallways. Our engravers seem to enjoy honoring my father, his face is engraved throughout the settlement. One engraver, Melkor, has even engraved an image of me ascending to leadership. I've decided Melkor will be our head mason and engraver.

1st of Opal
Some idiot's engraved a picture of me surrounded by cheese... I hate cheese.

15th of Opal
We've begun building some more forges with the new anvils we traded for with the caravans. We will soon begin glass production also.

19th of Opal
For my last two months of leadership, I've decided we will expand our mines downwards beneath the caverns. The Doctor Gregory has been named my successor by the people of Paddlemet... I really don't know what he does during the day since we have basically no use for a doctor. I don't even think we have a hospital area. Our only injury during my leadership was a dog having its skull broken (It's still alive too). Oh well, perhaps he'll turn out to be a good leader. Of course, I'll always be around as Sheriff.

22nd of Opal
Our food and drink problems have been solved and we'll have a surplus of drink for a while, I think. I think it's our best interest if the bookkeeper Karakzon provides accurate tabs on our stocks, insofar we've been using estimates.

5th of Obsidian
A giant cavern animal has broken into our fortress mines. The militia has been mobilized.

7th of Obsidian
After a few days of chasing this thing through the mines, we've finally killed it. A smog of miasma trailed it and from what was left of the corpse, Gregory the Doctor was able to identify it as a zombified giant mole rat.

9th of Obsidian
I don't know what supernatural forces are at work this winter, but it seems as though the zombies are all attacking the fortress. Zombie vultures are at the gates and giant mole rats are in the tunnels.

22nd of Obsidian 252
I believe today marks the first birth this settlement has experienced. He's the child of two dwarves named Edzul.... strange family.

1st of Granite 253
Well, It's been an eventful year in my opinion, our fortress has quadrupled from 7 to 46 dwarves. An impressive feat! Stories of our settlement must travel far.

I'm now ready to hand over control of the fortress to Doctor Gregory. My only wish is that if I ever die under his or his successors service, that I be buried alongside my father.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry for the lack of pictures on this last update, not a whole lot happened of note in winter besides the zombie attack.

Ok first time doin this so watch out!

From the notes Of the Healthsmith Dr.Gregory

Well.. it seems that the people of our fair fortress have turned to me to run as overseer.
I'm not sure why,really.....damnit I'm a doctor, not a mayor!
But really they all seemed confident in me, so now I'm overseer.

Here we go!(Gods help us all)

(Also how do I put the save into my copy of DF?)
