How to slow the game down?
« on: April 19, 2011, 06:21:52 am »

Hi ppl.
Yea since I played df some years ago it was back then alot slower than how I find it now.
The dwarfs zoom around too fast for my liking.
Is there a way to slow the game speed down, can't see a key for it.
Thankyou.

It'll slow down on its own, mate, trust me...give it a few ingame years and they won't be zooming much at all.

Reduce the maximum frame-rate in the init files. If you use the LazyNewbPack you can change it with that too.

Use a 10x10 embark site with at least 4 rivers, an Volcano next to a forrest and lots of wildlife.

data\init\init.txt

[FPS_CAP:120]
[G_FPS_CAP:60]

That will run the dwarves at 120fps until you get too much going on, after which it will run as fast as it can.

If you want slower, use a FPS_CAP of 30-60 (or lower).  When I was first starting, I ran at 30 FPS all the time to get a feel for the game.  I now run at 120FPS because I'm trying to get a better feel for how the FPS issue impacts things as time goes on (and whether anything I do can fix the FPS issue).
