So, I had my first group of migrants arrive, one z-level above my fortress and rest of dwarves and suddenly all my dwarves are frozen.  It didn't seem like a slower FPS since my mouse and menus were still working fast, but all of my dwarves just stopped in place or maybe they were just moving extremely slow.

Perhaps this is part of the game slowing down when things are happening on multiple z-levels.  I think I will have to abandon the fort since I can't play with everything frozen still.
