Your guiltiest (gaming) pleasure
« on: April 18, 2011, 08:26:59 pm »

Out of all the games you play, what is the one that seems to be so reviled by the community at large you're almost ashamed to admit you love?

For me, it's Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2. It is a sequel, to a spin-off, of one of the most critically-panned hack'n'slash games of all time. And yet, I love it! The mindless yet rewarding combat, the dozens of varied Mobile Suits to collect, all the different characters and missions to go through, it's all just combined into this wonderful package that nobody else can stand.

I don't know, and I don't particularly care. If I have a game that I like that everyone here hates, all that really matters is that I like it.

Runescape.

I played runescape before I knew what a troll was, so I didn't think much of the mindless retards. But yeah, I love runescape.

I can't say it's hated, but most people would say it's boring, or not even a game.

Microsoft Flight Simulator. And I try to fly as close to regulation as possible. The piss poor in game ATC makes that slightly hard, but I do what I can.

I love dynasty warrior games too.

Honestly though, I think the reason why the community at large hates them is because they tend to be self-derivative and niche in their appeal, not necessarily because they are bad games.

None.
I don't care what the plebs says and the public opinion is rather fubar anyway considering the praise for some crappy major titles

And DW games do their thing well even though there are things i would have liked them to add.

For me, it'd be... A large variety of MMORPGs. I'm not sure if this counts since, while there may be a large number of people that dislike a game, there's still a significantly large amount of people that do like it. Most specifically I absolutely love Ragnarok Online. I dislike a lot of the recent changes, but there is always going to be a place for it in my heart. And it is the only game I'm able to listen to music to without any honest detraction from the game itself. I haven't played in quite a few months, and I'm still trying to find a game that I can play while chilling to music. And there's even a ton of great music in the game itself, which is a great change of pace. I feel like I've said too much about this.

More recently, I loved FF13 and am currently playing 14 (the new MMO). Thirteen had some bad points, but it had a lot of things that I honestly enjoyed about it. As for 14, well, I got the collectors edition for $15 AND it doesn't have a monthly subscription. I'm willing to admit that 14 is pretty bad, but it has a few aspects that genuinely interest me. Lots of people tell me "Wow! You only paid $15 but it's still a terrible game!", but I've enjoyed that $15 more than some people have enjoyed a $50 game, and the game itself is still expanding and becoming more interesting. So yeah.

If I'm playing a game cooperatively with someone, I like to pick whichever character they think is useless.
