Friggin' Badgers-- How do they work?

A HOARD of badgers, on embark.

Then again.

Then a third time.

Then I died to a giant eagle in adventure mode sleeping on the foot of a mountain on my way back from slaying a few night monsters and an entire bandit camp.

Anyway, lookit' the title of the topic.

Badgers have, by default, a much-too-high [FREQUENCY] and [CLUSTER_SIZE]

That seems to be the rule, rather than the exception, for the sponsored animals.

My current dwarf fortress.

I mean, this world. It either has badgers, or honey badgers. No wildlife in between.

I'm considering making another one. See if I have less BADGERS.

For me it's pandas. Pandas, gigantic pandas, panda people, skeletal pandas, PANDAS EVERYWHERE! It's like my world was generated by the wwf!

Seriously tho... it's Plump Helmet Men for me... I modded out every other quasi-human race... but I couldn't let the plumpies go.  And DF noticed.

My last few forts have begun with mad dashes underground to escape the terrible badgers and badgermen (always one with the other) so I feel your pain.

I don't know, I must be incredibly lucky. I've got weapon traps at key points in the terrain (Hint: A narrow bridge over a river is a wonderful corral) and a food stockpile filled to the brim with prepared badger. My hunter slaughters badgers, and everything else he (or she? I'm never sure with dwarves) sees, with impunity.

I was once walling off the first cavern layer. Monsters spawned at the map edge I was trying to build walls on CONSTANTLY - if it wasn't troglodytes, it was crundles, if it wasn't THAT, it was dralthas. What was worse is that sometimes they spawned on TOP of the walls, meaning my millitary couldn't reach them and I had to send in my squad of three severely retarded crossbow dorfs.

And don't you know it, corpses up there spread miasma...thus I couldn't see what the eff was going on with the walls anymore and had to wait until the corpses rotted into skeletons.

Then when that was done, and I swear this is true, a FORGOTTEN BEAST spawned at that map edge, killing my carpenters, most of my millitary, and a few haulers for good measure.

As above but with beast people and no wall, just a web collecter in distress. So many reptile people... so many cave swallow men... olm men *shudder*.
