Dwarves REFUSE to dump items.
« on: April 17, 2011, 09:18:33 pm »

I've got two children in a sealed vault, and the only method of getting food and drinks to them is via a hole in the ceiling. The problem being, the dwarves refuse to dump the food I tell them to.

It's just sitting in the food stockpile, doing nothing.

There's no reason I can see that they shouldn't be dumping it.

They aren't even announcing any job cancelations or anything. They just aren't doing it.

It's getting pretty aggrovating.

Is the dump zone next to the hole, or at least include one tile next to the hole?

Is the food forbidden? If so, unforbid it. Are you dumping the entire barrel (if any) or just the food? Cancel all other dump jobs? One may be "blocking" them.

No, the dump just covers the hole. I'll try making it a little bigger.

Is the dump zone active?
Is the food not underground?
Can you dump things other than food? Can you dump food into other garbage zones?

Try going to the [j]obs menu, and searching for "dump item" jobs.

The dump zone must cover the area that they will "stand" to throw the item, so that's probably the issue.

It worked, thanks. Now I have some of those hand-held pet type dwarves. They will stay there in case of an emergency.

Which is the opposite of how it works for "pit" zones (where you can create a zone that only covers the empty space over the pit/pits and it still works).

So it is possible to create pits with goblins and dump stones on them. But will these stones damage said goblins?
