Starting as Outsider...
« on: April 17, 2011, 07:39:34 am »

So I've started as a Human outsider, and have gone into the woods to do some hunting so I can buy clothes and, most importantly, a backpack. Now I'm stood over my fallen Turkey foe with a spear in one hand and a dagger in the other.

How do I get the corpse back to town?
 - Is there an exploitable bug that lets me hold more than one object per hand?
 - Can I mod my mouth to allow it to grasp things? Would this mean all the other humans walk around carrying weapons between their teeth?
 - Can I leave the dagger in the woods and try to pick it up later? Assuming I can even find the place, will it stay here or disappear?

Help appreciated!

I would leave the dagger, I'm pretty sure that it'll stay there until you come back, but even if it doesn't, daggers are easy to come by.

I heard your like sieges so I put a Goblin fortress in your fortress so you could siege while besieged.

How do I get the corpse back to town?

 - Can I mod my mouth to allow it to grasp things? Would this mean all the other humans walk around carrying weapons between their teeth? Probably yes
 - Can I leave the dagger in the woods and try to pick it up later? Assuming I can even find the place, will it stay here or disappear? It will probably be in the same area but due to scatter it will most likely be in a differet actual place

Help appreciated!

If you leave something NOT in a named location, it will most likely disappear.

Do not make mouths into graps, or other people will carry crossbows and shields in their mouths.

I suggest to take Lofn's mod which allows you to make your own stuff out of dead animals and various materials.

Or you can get any mod (like mine, check the signature :P) which includes it or has similar crafting for adventurers.

P.S. The best places to store items are night creature lairs. Mounds or lairs in the ground. If you drop items there on a table/in a corner, they won't scatter.

Mmm you could carry more objects if you can get your dagger or spear stuck into a wound in one of your limbs, preferably in a non-lethal way. This may be hard to achieve though, and has obvious drawbacks.

Other option: throw the corpse ahead of you, pick it up and repeat untill you reach town. You won't be able to fast travel though.

I'd say just drop the dagger, and as Deon says if you happen to have a lair that's been cleaned out then those make a great place to stash all your extra money and other crap.

If I were starting as at outsider I would probably do one of the following:

1) Get a civ pissed off at me and just take stuff off of a sleeping soldier in a fort or something (using wrestling/disarming), wear all the stuff, go to another civ, and trade the junk clothing for a backpack.

or

2) Get soldier companions, who don't seem to care if they're following around a naked guy with a spear and a knife, lead them into a night creature lair or some other lair with something that isn't too hard to kill, let them do all the fighting while I throw rocks or something, hope they kill it and that one of them dies in the process, then take the stuff and sell some of it for a backpack. If both die, or it looks like the second one will, loot the corpse of the first guy to die while the second one holds off the creature for you then split, or help him kill the creature if you're feeling generous.

To help with technique 2, you can always start out as a social genius naked guy with a spear which will allow you to get more than two followers, and this isn't really that much of a sacrifice in terms of stat points because all of the important stats can be powerleveled to superhuman levels without too much trouble.

I'll try this. Tedious but should train throwing at the same time. If I get bored I'll try some thievery...

Thanks for the suggestions!

Yeah not being able to carry anything is a pain in the ass. Your best bet with an outsider is to hit outlaw camps in your area and hope that a backpack (or at the very least a bag or chest) is in their stash.

Ah, so Outsider #1 made it back to town, sold his kill for a backpack and some sandals, and was kicked to death by a deer the following day.
Outsider #2 was caught by bogeymen...
Outsider #3 has just thrown his dagger up a tree. Sigh.
