Starborn dominion's TL32 laser towers apparently did a lot of damage to the PTMC when they were trying to invade. Had anybody still been active, we may even have been able to stop them.

Yes, but I meant how should lowlevel empires such as mine defend themselves... Or are TL1 towers acceptable? (Does the 5%-improvement-per-TL apply to towers? If yes, I guess a half-dozen TL1 towers should be good enough against simple threats.)

If you're lower tech level and big TL32 empire wants to eat you, the only thing you can really do is try to stave them off with awesome ship designs. You could appeal for help from another big nation.

Towers provide extra bases and to take your city, the enemy needs to capture every single one of your bases(towers and your flag). More towers means more bases that need to be captured and will probably provide a little more of a stubborn defence against enemies than an undefended flag. The trouble with towers is that, as far as I know, you can only support something like one per 150(or 250?) population. It shouldn't be difficult to not annoy anybody enough to go to war with you, though and you can probably reach TL10-15ish within a few weeks, providing you have enough colonies and research going on.

By the way, did you change your empire to on request?

Well we dont intend to annoy anyone into war, but I have bad experiences in this game with asshole empires just attacking us for no reason :/

Also, yes, I changed to request. And I cant damned figure how to send invites or accept requests when both I and the one who wants to join arent both online...

I don't know either. Once I can catch an admin, I should be able to get my position as emperor back in my old empire. And Tres, your empire is still vassalised to mine.

Man, I made a dinky little city last night and it was taken over by another empire by morning :(

Also, I'm currently online and monitoring the channel B12, Poltifar.

I think it is required for both of you to be online at the same time.

Yeah, I realize. I haven't been on in quite a while, though. I don't think any of my empire's money is going to yours at the moment, but if you're going to be playing still, I can pop on long enough to set it all to go to you, if you're interested, until (and if) I get back into the game.

Pirate empires are difficult as the game is right now. Possibly doable though.

TL32 laser towers rip ships apart. Low level ones are largely ignorable though. I can say that Tymas will not purposefully attack any small or neutral empires. If you receive reports that we did attack you, contact me and we'll get it sorted out. Unfortunately we have to stay at default stance of hostile.

So... how is a pirate empire supposed to work?

I suppose its an empire with only one or a few well-defended and hidden cities (pirate coves), that then takes over enemy cities just to raid what they have in stock with no plan on trying to keep said conquered city. Also, they attack ships to either extort a "protection" fee or jack the ship through boarding.
